Need a good rest after work but no time? Tips to help

Have you ever had a rest after a long working day but in the morning felt exhausted again? It might happen for various reasons. If the situation seems to become chronic, seeing a doctor should be the first thing to do. However, sometimes the hard work just drains your energy while vacation is in the distant future. To effectively charge the batteries for the next achievements, take a look at these tricks.

Let your brain rest

Reading a book, listening to music, watching ‘’Friends’’ for the nth time are satisfying activities many of us enjoy after the working day. However, the main point here is that you stay active. We experience tiredness because our brain makes great efforts to process new information and different communication signals throughout the day. Therefore, to relax and shrug off the weight of the responsibilities, try to do nothing. Have you ever tried to stop thinking for a while? In the beginning, we struggle to do this exercise. By the end of the day, our mind has already been too warmed up. It is overwhelmed with different ideas, promises, tasks, and commitments. To brush them away, lie down, close your eyes, and concentrate on your breath. Let this sensation fill the whole space in your mind. There are lots of different meditation techniques that help to relax and clear the head.  Some of them require much practice and can look a bit too advanced in the beginning. So, if you don’t have much time for training, start with concentrating on your breath.

Do physical exercise

Paradoxically, physical exercises help release the mental stress accumulated during the day. They increase the level of endorphins. Apart from being a mood elevator, sport substantially improves alertness and concentration. It enhances cognitive functions and reduces tiredness. These advantages are worth remembering when you have to convince yourself to go to the gym after a long working day. Moreover, sport belongs to the tasks that can be accomplished within half an hour, while you will feel proud of yourself much longer. When we think of different physical exercises, the first things crossing our mind are jogging or heavy lifting. It’s completely fine if such things don’t inspire you. Far not everyone can and wants to reach the so-called ‘’runner’s high’’. Working out in the gym can be detrimental to health. Look at alternatives that will bring you much joy. Latina, yoga or stretching are as effective as the half marathons. Don’t give up after failed attempts to find the best option for you. There are many ways to keep your body fit and mind clear. Eventually, isn’t it pure happiness when exhausting training is over and you, more dead than alive, finally crawl to your bed?

Keep silent

Specialists whose profession is to communicate with many people definitely can relate to this piece of advice. Although Covid restrictions minimized our live interaction, video calls manage to tire us as much as the regular meetings. The so-called Zoom fatigue many people experienced at the beginning of the pandemic is now a proven scientific fact. So, even if you don’t leave your home, there is still a high chance to feel fagged when the work is done. Although we spent more than enough time not talking to people personally in 2020, the practice of keeping silent is ever-green. From firsthand experience, keeping silent for at least 30 minutes after the working day prevents family arguments, impulsive decisions and even purchases. Enjoying the silence (just like Depeche Mode told us) lets you plunge deeper into your worries and sort them out. Mute dialogues with yourself might decrease the level of anxiety and stress. Don’t trap yourself into exhausting self-analysis. Otherwise, there is a chance you’ll end up even more fagged. Evaluating events, social interactions, and emotions deserve a separate brainstorming session. Instead, try to accumulate energy by not spreading with words.

Find time for little pleasures

Another good way to unwind after work is to do something pleasant for yourself. Facial masks, warm bath, aromatherapy, self-massage, and tasty healthy (ok, not always healthy) food always work well for stress relief. If this award is waiting for you at the end of the tough day, you’ll more smoothly walk through endless meetings and burning deadlines. Try different practices of mindful meditation or yoga. They effectively abstract you from the daily routine and help dig deeper into thoughts and impressions of the day. The very idea to set aside time in the daily schedule and dedicate it to yourself sounds promising and inspiring. However, isn’t it easier said than done? If finding the gap in a timetable is challenging, start with having a good cup of tea. Surprisingly, this regular process into a meditation session could save much energy. Get yourself a cup of tea and forget about the whole world. Put it on hold and enjoy the taste. Every sip should be a small ceremony. Hurrying up is strongly prohibited. May it become the small pleasure of the day, the moment for you and no one else. As soon as the cup is finished, ready, steady, go.

Dream on

Using imagination is also one of the most tiring processes for our mind. However, it pays off well. Giving yourself the freedom to visualize the boldest ideas and creating methods to achieve them has a therapeutic effect. If buzzing thoughts bother you right before going to bed (and thus chew up valuable time), this strategy will be helpful. We tame emotions during the day for the sake of productivity (and it’s very welcome). The best and the shortest way to brush the accumulated pressure away is to let it go while you’re on your own. Set aside time and dream on! No one will witness and judge even the wildest ideas crossing your mind. Moreover, absolute freedom of thoughts may unexpectedly drive you to extraordinary solutions. What a win-win situation!

The motto ‘’work hard-play hard’’ is as relevant as never before. Limiting ourselves to sleeping and binge-watching is not enough to recover from the stressful working moments. Charging the mental batteries takes a bit of creativity and patience. Combine and look for new ways for fast and deep relaxation.
