Not only dog walking: best summer jobs for teens (part 2)

If starting a career doesn’t sound like a plan for you this summer, let’s consider occupations that require less preparation but will look good on the CV. First of all, they don’t demand much experience to pursue. Secondly, such occupations assume a flexible schedule, so teens don’t have to stop working when autumn is coming.

Barista

Believe it or not, but in the morning, a barista is the most important person. These people are filling cups with energy! Jokes aside, working as a barista helps you not just make some money. It also upgrades different professional and personal skills. The duties of a barista include serving customers, taking and processing their orders. Good specialists can also recommend drinks that would taste the best, ready to explain the difference of varieties and walk customers through the subtleties of consumption. As a public catering representative, you will also have to follow numerous safety and health guidelines. It’s an advantage to understand the basics of grinding or brewing equipment. Since the industry is gaining momentum, the barista has become a full-scale career. Even if you don’t see yourself as an expert in this field, experience in communication with clients and managing different processes will be extremely beneficial for you.

Restaurant host/hostess

While on the subject, have a look at the restaurant hosts/hostesses option. They also have many tasks connected to communication with clients (and sometimes the clients are unsatisfied and even aggressive). Hosts and hostesses are the first people guests see while entering the restaurant. Their general impression of the place will partly depend on it. Hosts and hostesses are in charge of the place settings. They greet the guests and lead them to reserved tables, check waiters’ performance. Furthermore, this job demands the readiness to come up with creative solutions in unusual situations. This work also requires answering different enquiries.

Lifeguard

You might not remember the iconic television series “Baywatch” (strongly recommend it to turn the nostalgia mode on). However, working as a lifeguard at rivers, beaches or swimming pools will bring you the vibes from the show. Lifeguards ensure the safety of people and should be able to help swimmers in dangerous situations. On top of that, they can provide correct first aid depending on the type of injury. Most of the time lifeguards have to patiently observe the territory and warn people not to swim beyond the buoys. However, there are moments when they need to act swiftly and decisively. Lifeguards swim excellently, are kind and friendly to people, and also have first aid certifications.

Library assistant

No! It’s not boring! Library assistants are indispensable workers who help us cope with an enormous amount of knowledge stored on endless shelves. Their primary task is to take care of the books and keep them in excellent condition. Another duty is to maintain records of taken out and brought back materials. Furthermore, library assistants help people put the books in the right places. Have you ever thought about how comfortable it is to find a book in the library? Necessary materials are always at hand because specialists patiently shelve them according to categories, topics, and alphabet. As you see, this job requires good organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail. Assisting library visitors demands readiness to thoughtfully perform the same tasks over and over. Library workers also ensure different needs of the customers, such as technical enquiries. They also should be aware of the new arrivals to recommend books.

Camp counsellor

Camp counsellors are in charge of the safety and entertainment of children. They also have to organize and support different events for the kids. Camp counsellors keep track of their behaviour, monitor the general atmosphere in the team. When needed, they contact parents and other staff members. Although playing games, delivering concerts, reading books, and going on adventures brings a lot of fun, a camp counsellor’s job is responsible and demanding. You have to pay attention to many children, stay patient when they go crazy, effectively communicate and engage campers in activities. There is a need to strike a delicate balance between following numerous guidelines and letting children have fun. Since you’re constantly interacting with people, be ready for the short-term emotional burnout. So, make sure you rest effectively. Camp counsellors have to be proactive, creative, and genuinely like children. Otherwise, it’s unlikely to work out.
