The Opportunity
With Every Community, Stantec Redefines What’s Possible.
Application Deadline: Recruitment is ongoing. Please apply as soon as possible as the advert may close once we have sufficient applicants.
The Opportunity
Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Geotechnical or Geoenvironmental Engineer in our Belfast office, where you will contribute to ground assessment, geotechnical and geoenvironmental work across a range of infrastructure, water and community-focused projects.
You will join a friendly and collaborative ground assessment team, applying your skills to real-world challenges and helping deliver high-quality outputs for clients. The team provides geotechnical and geoenvironmental expertise, working within multidisciplinary teams from early design stages through to construction.
Your work will support a varied mix of projects, including water company projects, infrastructure development, site characterisation and environmental risk assessment. You may contribute to work across water, energy and resources, transmission and distribution, waste and generation, minerals and resources, hydropower, nuclear and community development projects, depending on project needs.

About The Role
By joining our experienced ground assessment team, you will analyse geotechnical and geoenvironmental properties of the ground and help deliver client reports, including desk studies, ground investigation specifications, ground investigation reports, interpretative reports and recommendations. Your core responsibilities include:
- Supporting ground investigations, site characterisation and the preparation of ground investigation specifications and reports.
- Assessing geotechnical laboratory data, preparing ground models and supporting fundamental geotechnical design calculations.
- Contributing to geotechnical inputs such as foundations, retaining walls, soil and rock slope stability and earthworks.
- Reviewing historical maps and environmental information to identify potential sources of contamination.
- Evaluating soils and groundwater information, supporting environmental risk assessments and considering sustainable soil reuse or remediation options.
- Working within experienced multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with technical specialists across Stantec and developing your technical capability through varied project work.
We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. This role will support professional progression with relevant bodies such as ICE, GSL and/or IES, depending on your chosen pathway and technical focus.
Your Impact
This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting the safe, sustainable and informed development of infrastructure and water-sector projects. Your work will help clients understand ground conditions, manage geotechnical and environmental risks, support sustainable material reuse and develop practical solutions for complex sites.
About You
At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Chemistry, with a keen interest in working in the water sector, you will be :-
- An Adapter - You're able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
- A Perseverer - You stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
- A Collaborator - You work effectively with lots of different people, considering others’ perspectives to shape better outcomes.
- A Problem-Solver - You love to give your thoughts based on what you see, being unafraid to challenge conventional thinking.
Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.
What We Can Offer You
- A competitive salary
- Private medical insurance
- A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
- Permanent employment contract to demonstrate our commitment to your long-term career at Stantec
- Professional progression plan, supporting you to gain professional chartership
