English Teacher | Outstanding Secondary Academy | Lincoln

The Opportunity

Lincoln is a city steeped in literary and historical significance, from its magnificent Gothic cathedral to its heritage as a centre of Roman and medieval learning. We are seeking an intellectually ambitious and eloquent English Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary academy . In this role, you will inspire students to master the power of language and the depth of English literature, utilizing Lincoln’s rich cultural backdrop to foster a lifelong passion for reading and critical expression.

The Department & Literary Culture

  • You will join a high-performing English faculty where the subject is the heartbeat of the school’s academic curriculum.

  • The department fosters a "literary-discourse" atmosphere, encouraging students to engage in high-level critique of texts ranging from the Shakespearean canon to contemporary post-colonial literature.

  • As an "Outstanding" setting, we prioritise a knowledge-rich curriculum that focuses on the etymology of language, the evolution of narrative form, and the socio-political contexts of great works.

  • We maintain active links with the University of Lincoln and local heritage sites, providing students with opportunities for creative writing workshops and theatrical experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge English Language and Literature lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities for A-Level instruction (English Literature/Language/Creative Writing) for suitably qualified candidates.

  2. Textual Analysis: Guiding students through the rigorous interrogation of prose, poetry, and drama, ensuring they develop the sophisticated evaluative skills required for top-tier exam performance.

  3. Linguistic Precision: Systematically teaching the mechanics of grammar, rhetoric, and advanced composition to ensure students can communicate with clarity, authority, and flair.

  4. Data-Driven Progress: Utilising the academy’s robust assessment framework to provide granular feedback, ensuring students are equipped to meet the high-level demands of GCSE and A-Level specifications.

  5. Cultural Leadership: Coordinating extra-curricular initiatives, such as debating societies, school magazines, or theatre trips, to promote a vibrant reading culture across the academy.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject authority who believes that mastery of English is the key to social mobility and intellectual freedom. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in English Literature, Language, or a related Humanities discipline.

  • Proven Track Record: Evidence of delivering exceptional learning outcomes at GCSE and A-Level, with a deep understanding of AQA, Edexcel, or OCR assessment objectives.

  • Oracy & Expression: The ability to model high-level academic talk and inspire students through a deep-seated love of storytelling and debate.

  • Reflective Practice: A professional committed to continuous growth, eager to participate in collaborative planning and the development of world-class resources.

Why Join Us?

  • The chance to work in an "Outstanding" environment where student behaviour is exemplary and English is held in the highest academic regard.

  • Unrivalled professional development pathways, including opportunities for middle leadership and specialised training in advanced literacy pedagogy.

  • The opportunity to work in Lincoln—a historic, affordable, and beautiful city offering an exceptional quality of life and a friendly, community-focused atmosphere.

  • A prestigious professional community that values innovation, intellectual rigour, and the holistic development of every student.
