We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established groundworks and civil engineering contractor based in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor / AQS with a background in commercial groundworks to join a growing business and develop their career within the construction and civils sector.
The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be Birmingham based, with travel to live sites required a couple of times per week.
The Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of groundworks projects, working closely with the wider commercial and operational teams.
The role will involve supporting the Quantity Surveying function across projects from pre-construction through to completion, with exposure to the commercial and contractual elements of groundworks and civil engineering projects.
This would suit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who already has experience within commercial groundworks and is looking for a long-term opportunity to progress within a growing construction business.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the commercial management of groundworks projects
- Assisting with valuations, applications and payment processes
- Supporting the preparation and management of commercial reports
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement and management
- Reviewing subcontractor accounts and payments
- Assisting with variations, changes and commercial queries
- Supporting the Quantity Surveyor with cost control and forecasting
- Working closely with site and project teams
- Attending groundworks sites a couple of times per week
- Maintaining strong commercial relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
Requirements
- Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / AQS
- Commercial groundworks experience is essential
- Background within groundworks, civils or civil engineering
- Good understanding of Quantity Surveying and commercial processes
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively with both commercial and site teams
- Full UK driving licence
- Based within a commutable distance of Birmingham
- Comfortable travelling to sites a couple of times per week
