Registered Children's Home Manager – EBD Service - Reading Area - Up to £60,000 per annum - Full time
About the RoleWe have partnered with a brilliant Children's Service who are on the lookout for an experienced, driven and genuinely child focused Registered Manager to lead their children's residential home. This is a real opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people. The Registered Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management and operation of the children's residential home, ensuring the highest standards of care, protection and support for children and young people. Registered Children's Home Manager Main Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Provide effective leadership, direction and management of the home and staff team.
- Establish and maintain a positive culture where children are respected, valued and supported to thrive.
- Lead by example, promoting the organisation's vision, values and standards.
- Ensure the home operates efficiently and effectively at all times.
- Manage staffing structures, rotas and resources to meet the needs of children.
- Participate in the on-call management rota as required.
- Support the strategic development of the service and contribute to organisational objectives.
- Maintain registration with Ofsted and fulfil all responsibilities associated with
registration. - Ensure all significant events are reported appropriately in accordance with Regulation 40.
- Maintain accurate records of all notifications submitted to Ofsted and other relevant agencies.
- Promote a trauma-informed, child-centred and therapeutic approach throughout
the service. - Ensure staff understand the impact of trauma, attachment difficulties and adverse childhood experiences.
- Foster positive relationships between staff and children.
- Take overall responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns, allegations, disclosures and incidents are managed promptly and effectively.
- Ensure all staff understand and fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities.
- Liaise with Local Authorities, Police, LADO, Ofsted and other safeguarding agencies when required.
- Monitor safeguarding practices and ensure compliance with statutory guidance.
- Promote a culture where children feel safe, listened to and protected.
- Ensure children receive high-quality, individualised care based on assessed needs.
- Oversee placement matching, care planning and risk assessment processes.
- Ensure children are actively involved in decisions affecting their lives.
- Monitor progress and ensure plans are regularly reviewed.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to achieve within agreed timescales.
- Minimum Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- At least 2 years' experience in a management role within a children's residential care setting.
- Experience of managing safeguarding concerns and complex incidents.
- Experience of leading teams and managing performance.
- Experience of Ofsted inspections and regulatory compliance.
- Experience of quality assurance and service improvement.
- Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
- Children's Homes Quality Standards.
- Children Act 1989 and 2004.
- Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Safeguarding legislation and guidance.
- Safer recruitment principles.
- Equality, diversity and inclusion practices.
