North Yorkshire Council is recruiting Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join our forward thinking and supportive service. We are seeking applicants for a dedicated Out of Hours AMHP role within our Emergency Duty Team (EDT), alongside flexible daytime AMHP opportunities designed to support a positive work-life balance. This is a countywide role, so work base can be discussed at interview.
Consideration will be given to experienced Social Workers applying for the EDT posts who are willing to undertake AMHP training in 2027/28.

Out of Hours AMHP – Emergency Duty Team (EDT)
This role sits within our well-established generic out-of-hours service, covering both adults and children across North Yorkshire and the City of York. Working from Home. Shift pattern is 4 on, 4 off rota, weekdays from 16:30 onwards, weekends and Bank Holidays from 08:00.
Responsibilities include:
- Responding to urgent situations requiring Local Authority intervention
- Undertaking Mental Health Act assessments, adults and children’s safeguarding activity, and housing for City of York.
- Acting as the single point of contact for social care out of hours
- Triage, prioritise and manage complex cases and risks
Daytime AMHP Opportunities (Flexible Working)
We also offer flexible daytime AMHP roles, with working patterns designed to support your work-life balance. Various shift patterns available, condensed and flexible working arrangements can be discussed.
You will undertake Mental Health Act assessments across community and health-based settings, working collaboratively to uphold least restrictive practice.
Responsibilities include:
- You will have a strong knowledge of statutory social care functions, legislation, policy and procedures
- You will manage complex situations requiring robust risk assessment, crisis intervention, and sound professional judgement.
