Behaviour Mentor | Bury, Greater Manchester
Empowering students to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive secondary school in Bury . This is a high-impact role designed for someone who can offer both firm boundaries and genuine empathy to students who find the traditional classroom environment challenging. You will be a key figure in the school’s Pastoral Support Unit, working to reduce exclusions and foster a culture of emotional intelligence.
The Snapshot
Location: Bury (Excellent links via the Metrolink and M66)
Salary: £24,500 – £28,000 (Pro-rata, dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
Start Date: As soon as possible
Detailed Responsibilities
Targeted Interventions: Managing a caseload of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing 1:1 sessions focused on anger management, conflict resolution, and self-regulation.
Classroom Support: Working alongside teachers to identify "trigger" moments for specific students and implementing immediate de-escalation strategies to keep them engaged in learning.
Restorative Practice: Leading restorative justice meetings between students to resolve bullying or social conflicts, ensuring long-term behavioural change rather than just short-term compliance.
Progress Tracking: Maintaining detailed records of student behaviour and emotional well-being, providing the Senior Leadership Team with evidence for further specialist support where necessary.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a professional who remains calm under pressure and possesses the "thick skin" required to work with challenging behaviour. You might come from a background in youth work, sports coaching, or even the prison service—what matters most is your ability to build trust with "hard-to-reach" young people while maintaining the high standards of the school.
How to Apply
If you are a practical, reliable professional looking for a stable role in a school that values your contribution, please submit your CV today.
