Research Scientist, Radiobiology

£25.3 - £29.5 per hourEstimated
Full-time
Company Description
Bicycle Therapeutics is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company developing a novel class of medicines, referred to as Bicycle® molecules, for diseases that are underserved by existing therapeutics. Bicycle molecules are fully synthetic short peptides constrained with small molecule scaffolds to form two loops that stabilize their structural geometry. This constraint facilitates target binding with high affinity and selectivity, making Bicycle molecules attractive candidates for drug development. The company is evaluating nuzafatide pevedotin (formerly 5528), a Bicycle® Drug Conjugate (BDC®) targeting EphA2, a historically undruggable target; zelenectide pevedotin (formerly BT8009), a BDC targeting Nectin-4, a well-validated tumor antigen; and BT7480, a Bicycle Tumor-Targeted Immune Cell Agonist® (Bicycle TICA®) targeting Nectin-4 and agonizing CD137, in company-sponsored clinical trials. Additionally, the company is developing Bicycle® Radioconjugates (BRC®) for radiopharmaceutical use and, through various partnerships, is exploring the use of Bicycle® technology to develop therapies for diseases beyond oncology.

Bicycle Therapeutics is headquartered in Cambridge, UK, with many key functions and members of its leadership team located in Lexington, Massachusetts, USA. For more information, visit bicycletherapeutics.com

Culture is key and all Bicycle employees actively embrace and role model our company values:
  • We are Adventurous . We believe it’s the way to deliver extraordinary results for our patients.
  • We are Dedicated to our Mission . You can’t change the world if you don’t have determination.
  • We are One Team . We only succeed when we work together.
Job Description
Your mission is to apply your skills in radiobiology to support the preclinical development of our innovative Bicycle® Radio-Conjugates (BRCs™). You will conduct key in vitro and in vivo experiments, generating the high-quality data needed to understand the efficacy and mechanism of action of our next-generation cancer therapies.

Working location: This is a hybrid position with the majority of attendance being at our office in London (up to 4 days per week), in the vicinity of Kings Cross, with an ongoing requirement to visit the Cambridge Office up to 2 days per month.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Scientific & Project Execution
  • Conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the efficacy, mechanism of action, and radiobiological effects of our BRCs, following established study designs.
  • Perform a range of assays to probe DNA damage response, cell cycle effects, and mechanisms of cell death.
  • Characterize the effects of targeted radionuclide therapy on both tumour cells and the tumour microenvironment.
  • Support radiobiology research conducted through CROs and academic collaborations by assisting with material transfer and data organization.
Data Analysis & Communication
  • Diligently document all experimental work and clearly communicate results to your manager and project team.
  • Contribute to the identification of potential pharmacodynamic biomarkers through careful experimental work.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations through your data generation and analysis.
WHO ARE YOU: SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Knowledge & Expertise
  • Core Expertise: You apply solid scientific knowledge to plan and conduct radiobiology experiments with growing independence.
  • Data / Insight: You interpret experimental results, identifying trends and drawing clear conclusions from your data.
  • Knowledge Sharing: You share your expertise and observations with peers to build the team's collective capability.
Job Complexity
  • Task / Project Delivery: You deliver work of moderate complexity independently, taking ownership of your assigned experiments and ensuring reliable results.
  • Problem-Solving: You adapt established methods to address new scientific challenges and troubleshoot issues in your experiments.
  • Strategic Impact: You contribute key insights and reliable data that support team decision-making on a project level.
Independence
  • Autonomy: You work independently on defined projects with limited oversight on routine work.
  • Decision-Making: You select appropriate methods to achieve experimental objectives and deliver high-quality data.
  • Leadership / Mentorship: You provide guidance to less experienced colleagues, sharing your knowledge of specific assays and techniques.
Values & Behaviours
One Team
  • Collaboration: You work constructively within and across teams to ensure your work is aligned with project goals.
  • Inclusive Leadership : You encourage input from colleagues with different perspectives to enhance the quality of your work.
  • Mentorship / Support: You actively share knowledge and offer support to your peers.
Adventurous
  • Innovation: You suggest new approaches to experiments or improvements to existing assays.
  • Risk-Taking: You learn from experimenting with novel methods and are willing to try new techniques.
  • Change Leadership: You support the team's transition to new processes or technologies.
Dedicated to our Mission
  • Accountability: You take ownership for the quality and reliability of your experimental results.
  • Resilience: You remain focused and determined when experiments do not go as planned.
  • Inspiration: You demonstrate commitment by linking your daily work to our mission of helping patients.
Qualifications
  • A strong educational background in radiobiology, cancer biology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of in vitro radiobiology techniques (e.g., clonogenic survival, DNA damage assays, cell cycle analysis).
  • A solid understanding of the biological effects of ionizing radiation.
  • Experience with targeted radiotherapeutics or preclinical imaging would be an advantage.
