Job summary
The Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist. This is a whole-time position, and the new appointee will share the caseload, facilities, and trainee grade support with the existing consultants. Requirements of the post-holder are listed below. The post is whole time post of 10 PA's and offers 8.5 programmed activities (PAs), and 1.5 SPA. The successful candidate will be expected to provide pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia, and follow-up. He/she will be expected to introduce and apply new techniques as appropriate and to take a share of the general work of the department, including cover for consultant colleagues where practical. There are opportunities and support provided to develop leadership roles such as sub-specialty lead and college tutor. The Department of Anaesthesia is committed to continuing its teaching role and considerable importance is attached to the support of the junior medical staff in the Department. Main duties of the job
The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. The appointee will take his/her share of clinical responsibilities within the Department of anaesthesia. This will include provision for clinics in the pre-operative assessment department. In addition to any duties within a subspeciality of interest, the appointee will be required to provide anaesthesia for adult and child patients in all specialties as appropriate to his/her training and experience. There is a need to develop a team with a strong emphasis on delivering a cross-site service. Post-holders will be required to work on each site. Consultants will agree to a job plan, which is reviewed annually. About us

Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Holder of Certificate of completion of training (CCT) or Equivalent or within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Fully GMC registered with a licence to practice
- SIA/fellowship or equivalent in a subspecialist area such as paediatrics, regional, acute pain or perioperative medicine
- Experience in pre-operative assessment with clinical pathway development and coordination of perioperative care
- NHS experience at an acute hospital within an inner-city location
