Senior Charge Nurse – Stroke Ward
Band 7 | Full time (36 hours) | Dr Gray’s Hospital
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and compassionate Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) to lead our 8-bedded Acute Stroke Ward within Medicine and Unscheduled Care at Dr Gray’s Hospital.
The role
This is a key leadership position within our stroke service, offering the opportunity to influence high-quality, patient-centred care in a dynamic and rewarding clinical environment. You will play a pivotal role in leading the nursing team, supporting staff development, and driving continuous improvement in care delivery.
Our Stroke Ward is an 8-bedded acute unit, delivering specialist care to patients in the early phase following a stroke. The team is committed to providing safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care, working closely and collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and their families in our community.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will provide visible, clinical and professional leadership to the ward team, ensuring safe, effective and person-centred care at all times.
The SCN will be responsible for
- Ensure safe staffing levels, effective rostering and escalation of workforce risks in line with local and national frameworks
- Lead on clinical governance, patient safety initiatives and learning from adverse events
- Drive continuous improvement and implementation of best practice
- Foster a positive team culture focussed on support, learning and accountability
- Maintain effective communication with patients and families, ensuring compassionate care
- Supporting, developing and inspiring nursing and multi-disciplinary teams
- Delivering high-quality, evidence-based patient care
The SCN will play a pivotal role in ensuring the ward responds effectively to the pressures of unscheduled care, maintaining patient flow, while upholding clinical and local and national standards.

Key Worker Housing Support
Moray Council are offering temporary accommodation for key workers moving to Moray to support recruitment in the public sector, including NHS roles. This opportunity is designed to help individuals who are unable to secure housing locally while starting their new job.
Applicants must be filling a public sector role such as NHS healthcare professionals eg Consultants, Nurses, Physiotherapists where local skills shortages exist.
You must be moving to Moray from outside the area and must be willing to accept a Short Scottish Secure Tenancy (SSST), which is a temporary housing arrangement.
Key worker points will be awarded based on employer confirmation of recruitment need, and housing will be provided for a minimum of six months, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months.
