Head of Accounts, HR, & Compliance

The Company is an established, high-growth servicing, maintenance, and renovation business with 17 members of staff based in Wiltshire. Following an upcoming ownership transition, we are seeking a highly organised, multi-disciplinary Head of Accounts, HR & Compliance to join our client’s leadership team.

The successful candidate will take full ownership of the financial accounts, be the lead for all HR related matters in the business, and serve as the administrative anchor for compliance, including health and safety – collaborating closely with our operational department heads including the General Manager, Head of Service and Head of Renovation to ensure adherence in the field.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Accounting
● Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, invoice processing, and bank reconciliations.
● Payroll Administration: Process monthly payroll for all internal office staff, field engineers, and construction crews, including pension contributions and HMRC submissions.
● Management Reporting: Monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and variance analyses to provide clear financial visibility.
● Job Costing & Margin Control: Monitor project profitability across our three revenue streams: Service/Maintenance, Renovation, and Product Sales. Ensure the business does not take on low margin jobs by instituting an approval framework and criteria for acceptance.
● Manage purchasing to ensure appropriate intake margin. Also track material inflation, direct labor wages, and subcontractor costs to ensure the business. Recruit and manage a Purchasing and Stock Controller.
● Tax & Statutory Compliance: Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns and coordinate directly with external corporate accountants for year-end statutory filings.
● Company Filing Duties: Maintain statutory corporate registers and handle annual filings with Companies House

2. Human Resources (HR) Oversight
● HR Administration: Maintain secure employee personnel files, customise employment contracts, manage the onboarding process for new hires, and handle offboarding.
● Staff Welfare & Tracking: Manage internal tracking for staff leave, sickness logs, overtime hours, and training matrix updates.
● Issue Resolution: Act as the first point of contact for internal HR queries, staff grievances, or policy implementation.

3. Compliance Oversight
● Regulatory Compliance: Ensure company operations conform to current UK Health & Safety legislation
● Training & Certification Auditing: Ensure all active field engineers and site teams maintain up-to-date certifications, including First Aid, Site Supervisor training, and specialised equipment licenses.
● Lease Compliance: Liaise with landlords regarding estate maintenance, service charges, and building compliance.
