Secondary SEND Teacher
SEND Teacher (Secondary) - Autism Specialist Provision Location: East London Salary: £150+ per day Contract: Full time / Temp-to-Perm We are partnering with an excellent special school in East London to find a committed Secondary SEND Teacher to join their team. Both ECTs and experienced teachers are welcome to apply - the school has a strong track record of supporting teachers at every stage. About the school This is a well-regarded specialist provision for young people with autism and associated needs, with a reputation for its structured, supportive ethos and its genuine investment in staff development. It's the kind of setting where teachers are trusted, well supported and given the tools to do their best work - which is exactly why so many stay. You'll be teaching a secondary-aged class of predominantly autistic students, with around 12 students in the class and a team of 5 teaching assistants supporting throughout the day. That staffing means you can deliver truly individualised learning and give every student the attention they need. - Assess and mark work, tracking and recording progress against individual targets
- Support progress towards accreditation and qualifications where appropriate (ASDAN, Entry Level, functional skills)
- Embed independence, communication, social skills and preparation for adulthood into daily learning
- Lead and direct your team of 5 TAs, and contribute to transition and next-steps planning alongside families and the wider team
- Take part in parents' evenings, INSET days and ongoing professional development What we're looking for
- QTS (or working towards / equivalent)
- ECTs and experienced teachers alike - full induction and mentoring are in place for those early in their career
- Confidence teaching and engaging autistic teenagers and young people
- Experience of, or a genuine commitment to, special education and ASC provision
- The ability to lead and motivate a strong classroom team
- Understanding of EHCPs, accreditation pathways and person-centred planning (training provided where needed) Why this school
- Excellent induction, ongoing CPD and autism-specific training
- A genuinely supportive setting for ECTs, with structured mentoring and time to grow
- Real, practical support from an experienced and approachable leadership team
- A generous staffing ratio that supports genuinely individualised teaching
- A collaborative, well-resourced setting where staff feel supported and stay long-term
