Tenancy Rights Officer

£39.15k - £41.77k per annum

Following the introduction of the Renters' Rights Act, an exciting opportunity has become available to work within the housing standards and enforcement team in the Housing service. The position is for 1.0 FTE (37 hours) per week, Monday to Friday. This new role is focused on tenancy rights, particularly in cases of unlawful eviction and harassment and other tenancy breaches, and taking enforcement action. 

About you

You will promote good tenancy relations and compliance in the private rented sector by enforcing landlord legislation including the Renters' Rights Act 2025 and the Protection from Eviction Act 1977. You will investigate alleged breaches of legislation, engage with landlords, tenants and other services, and take cases through to successful enforcement action including civil penalties, court action and rent repayment orders.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of investigating breaches of legislation and regulations, interviewing under caution and preparing robust enforcement cases;
  • Knowledge of unlawful eviction and harassment and housing law;
  • The ability to converse at ease with our internal and external customers;
  • A flexible approach to work;
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the borough.
