Mechanical Engineer

£21.9 - £24.1 per hourEstimated
Full-time
Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are now recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team where you'll support us in ensuring the ongoing integrity, performance and compliance of our products across their full lifecycle. This role will be based at our Bishops Cleeve site.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll join a collaborative engineering team where you'll work on technically challenging products, solve complex engineering problems, and make a real impact in keeping critical aerospace products available, supported and fit for purpose for the long-term.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career within a global aerospace business that values innovation, continuous improvement and technical excellence.

The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer at Ontic, you'll provide technical support across a diverse portfolio of aerospace products, from supporting the introduction of new products into the Ontic portfolio through to in-service support and eventual retirement. Working within a highly regulated environment, you'll help ensure our products continue to meet demanding performance, quality and regulatory requirements.

You'll work closely with Supply Chain, Operations, Quality and our customers to maintain design integrity, providing validated engineering solutions to overcome supply chain challenges or support product improvements. Whether reviewing technical data, implementing engineering changes, investigating technical issues or resolving obsolescence challenges, you'll play a vital role in keeping our products reliable and compliant as part of Ontic's promise to deliver a lifetime of flight.

This role offers plenty of variety, with the opportunity to support redesign activities, evaluate new materials and manufacturing solutions, participate in root cause investigations, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that deliver real value to both our customers and the business.

About You

We're looking for a proactive Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving engineering challenges and thrives in a collaborative environment. You'll be someone who can confidently manage multiple priorities within an agile working environment, build strong relationships across the business, and communicate technical information clearly to a variety of stakeholders.

You'll have practical knowledge and understanding of a broad range of engineering materials and manufacturing processes. Ideally you will have experience supporting product sustainment, design improvement or New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, together with an understanding of engineering change processes within a regulated industry.

To be successful, you'll bring :

A degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience within a design, manufacturing or product support engineering environment, ideally in aerospace or another highly regulated industry.

Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering materials, manufacturing processes and structural components.

The ability to interpret technical drawings and understand original design intent.

Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis and engineering calculations.

Experience supporting engineering changes, product improvements and technical investigations.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to root cause analysis.

Experience with CAD and PLM systems. Previous experience of SolidWorks and Windchill would be advantageous.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.

Ontic is more than just a business, we're a community of innovators who pride ourselves on fostering a culture where talent thrives, ideas flourish, and careers are built. We're committed to excellence, driving us to continuously improve and adapt, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of our industry.
