Long-term role with permanent opportunity
Do you have a natural ability to build trust with children who need a little extra support?
We're working with a warm and inclusive primary school in Northfield that is looking for two Behaviour Mentors to join its dedicated SEND and pastoral team this September.
This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support Key Stage 2 pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, Autism, ADHD and behavioural challenges. You'll play an important role in helping children develop emotional regulation, confidence and resilience, allowing them to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
The school is known for its nurturing approach, experienced leadership team and commitment to providing every child with the support they need to succeed.
Your role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you'll work closely with pupils who benefit from additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them engage positively with school life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small intervention groups
- Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Delivering interventions that develop social skills, confidence and resilience
- Helping children access learning both in and out of the classroom
- Supporting transitions, breaktimes and structured activities throughout the school day
- Following individual behaviour support plans and therapeutic strategies
- Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff and external professionals
- Building positive relationships that help children feel safe, understood and motivated to learn
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children with SEMH, Autism, ADHD or behavioural needs
- Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or has equivalent school-based experience
- Is calm, patient and confident when managing challenging behaviour
- Understands trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches or similar behaviour support strategies
- Builds strong relationships with children, families and colleagues
- Wants to make a genuine difference to children's educational journeys
Training such as Team Teach, Behaviour Management or Mental Health First Aid would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
Why join this school?
- Supportive leadership team and experienced SEND staff
- Inclusive school community with a nurturing ethos
- Well-equipped intervention and outdoor learning spaces
- Long-term role with genuine permanent potential
- Easily accessible from across Birmingham via public transport
