Job Description

Help keep Drivetech's commercial training operation performing at its best, combining hands-on driver training with operational leadership.

As Commercial Training Manager, you'll support the National Commercial Training Manager in maintaining trainer quality, delivery resilience and excellent customer outcomes. The balance of operational management, training delivery, quality assurance, project activity and customer engagement will flex with business needs.

You'll recruit and develop trainers, oversee quality monitoring and continuous professional development, and deliver commercial driver training programmes yourself. You'll also work with Account Managers, Product, bookings and planning teams, customers, the DVSA, police, senior leaders and the wider AA group to strengthen delivery and professional standards.

This role will suit someone who combines credible professional driver training expertise with sound judgement, strong organisation and a collaborative approach. You'll be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and stepping in to maintain operational continuity when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead trainer selection, recruitment and induction, working with trainer support and commercial bookings teams to build a capable, delivery-ready trainer network.
• Oversee the Trainer Quality Monitoring programme and ongoing CPD, using evidence-based assessment, feedback and targeted development to maintain consistently high training standards.
• Address quality concerns promptly, providing clear guidance and support for improvement and taking appropriate action where required to protect delivery quality.
• Deliver commercial driver training, inductions, upskills and presentations, maintaining your own professional competence and credibility as an Approved Driving Instructor.
• Partner with the Product Team to develop and embed training products for commercial clients, ensuring trainers are briefed, trained and able to access the materials they need.
• Use course feedback and performance information to identify themes, improve CPD and champion continuous improvement and customer excellence with Account Managers.
• Build trusted relationships across internal and external stakeholders and provide operational management cover when required, helping maintain trainer support, customer service and continuity of delivery.

Qualifications

You’ll Bring

• Current DVSA registered Approved Driving Instructor status, with experience delivering classroom-based and practical in-vehicle training.
• Experience assessing, coaching and developing others, including providing evidence-based assessments and structured feedback.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders, managing competing priorities and building effective working relationships.
• Strong organisational and planning skills, with a track record of achieving operational objectives and meeting deadlines.
• Clear communication and interpersonal skills, sound independent decision-making and the ability to use data and management information to inform decisions.
• Experience managing a geographically dispersed contractor network and commercial fleet driver training; DVSA fleet trainer registration and an advanced driving qualification, or willingness to work towards them.

Nice to Have

• LGV/PCV driving licence or trailer towing experience.
• Transport Manager CPC.
• L3 AET/PTTLS.
