Engineering- Technical Support Apprentice

£19.5k per annum

Summary

As part of this role you will support the Purchasing Quality Assurance team in their day-to-day activities. You will also work with a national and international Purchasing Quality team and support the business of Home Comfort in developing the supply base.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Role Scope:

  • Support the Purchasing Quality Assurance team in dealing with quality topics from purchased parts
  • Support the problem solving and investigation of internal component complaints
  • Dealing with internal and external cross departmental teams
  • Dealing with external suppliers as required
  • Support the returns to supplier and cost collection process
  • Support the data management of quality complaints and supplier data
  • General administrative work when required

Key focus:

1.  Support Production dealing with quality issues of purchased components

2.  Containment actions and problem-solving activities

3.  Inspection of delivered goods

4.  Returns to suppliers and reimbursement process

5.  Supplier data management in SAP

Additional responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to production and other departments regarding non-conformances
  • Analysis, update and development of Purchase Quality databases as necessary
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement Process
  • Other general projects or quality engineering duties as required

  • Follow health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. For example, segregation of resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Comply with engineering standards and regulations. For example, British Standards (BS), International Organisation for Standardisation standards (ISO). European Norm (EN).
  • Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs. For example, read and interpret text, data, engineering drawings, work instructions, method statements, operation manuals.
  • Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles.
  • Apply problem solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems.
  • Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders.
  • Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
  • Produce job specific technical outputs. For example, engineering drawings, quality control management, computer control programming, business improvement, adverse incident reports, technical investigations, equipment appraisals and specifications.
  • Provide support and guidance for handover of work to stakeholders. For example, checklists, product or process status, access to supporting documents.
  • Record information - paper based or electronic. For example, energy usage, equipment service records, test results, handover documents, checklists.
  • Follow standard operating procedures.
  • Follow manufacturer's instructions. For example, safe instructions for use of products, processes and machinery.
  • Apply quality assurance and control principles and practices. For example, conduct physical checks, take samples, inspections or tests.
  • Apply continuous improvement techniques.
  • Apply team working principles.
  • Communicate in writing with others for example, stakeholders, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.

Training schedule

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence.

You will be expected to work towards the Level 3 Engineering and manufacturing support technician, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.

More training information

You will be required to attend day release weekly at our Derby site - 13 Royal Scot Rd, Derby DE24 8AJ.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)
