Principal Estates Surveyor

£55k - £65k per annum

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

Location: Northallerton, North Yorkshire

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

We are looking for an experienced Principal Estates Surveyor to join our well‑established Estates team, which has over 20 years of successful collaboration. You will work primarily with public sector clients, including Local Authorities from Lancaster Council, Middlesborough Council and North Yorkshire Council to Leicester City Council, Bury Council and Norfolk County Council; as well as Housing Associations such as Believe Housing, Karbon Homes and Broadacres Housing Association - alongside selected private sector clients, offering the stability of public sector work with the benefits and progression of the private sector.

What you’ll be doing

  • Playing a key role within the Estates & Valuation team, delivering high‑quality estates, valuation and property advice across a diverse property portfolio
  • Leading on day‑to‑day estates surveying activities, managing your own workload with minimal supervision
  • Supporting and mentoring graduate and junior surveyors within multi‑disciplinary project teams
  • Working collaboratively with public and private sector clients, including local authority partners, and liaising with statutory bodies as required
  • Undertaking site visits, inspections, surveys and valuations, and contributing to project planning and team resourcing
  • Providing technical input, preparing job costings and supporting documentation
  • Keeping senior leadership informed of key issues, progress and professional recommendations

What we’re looking for

  • A professionally qualified Estates Surveyor (MRICS/FRICS) with experience in estates management, valuation and/or asset management
  • Background in a property consultancy, local authority or similar public/private sector environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of valuation, property and asset management, with an understanding of relevant UK standards and legislation
  • Experience producing professional reports, appraisals and advisory work for a range of clients
  • Confident, commercially aware and comfortable leading workstreams or projects
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and industry‑standard surveying systems
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to support junior colleagues and work effectively within multi‑disciplinary teams
  • A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites and client locations
