Infection Prevention and Control/Tuberculosis (TB) Support Nurse

Job summary
With the Matron, Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Nurses, TB Specialist Nurse, Consultant Microbiologists and Operational Director of Infection prevention and Control, ensure that prevention, monitoring, investigation and control of healthcare associated infection is embedded within all activities of the Trust. Under the direction of the Specialist Infection Prevention and Control Nurses provide clinical advice on all matters relating to infection prevention and control. Under the direction of the Specialist TB nurse provide and undertake TB service delivery, including follow up in the community, screening, contact tracing and providing advice and support to patients and families.

Main duties of the job
Under the direction of Specialist Infection Prevention and Control Nurses provide clinical advice in infection prevention and control within clinical areas and to all health care staff.

Under the direction of the Specialist TB nurse provide and undertake TB service delivery, including venepuncture, screening, contact tracing and providing advice and support to patients and families.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (Nurses)
  • Recognised Teaching qualification or equivalent experience of teaching.
  • specialist infection prevention qualification to diploma level or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • Degree module/s qualification in infection prevention and control or equivalent.
  • Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Clinical practice in an NHS setting.
  • Teaching in small groups.
  • Managing and leading staff
  • Use of a computer.
  • Infection prevention and control principles and practice
Desirable
  • Managing change.
  • Contributing to policy.
  • Project management.
