Security Clearance Requirement

Due to the nature of the work you'll be supporting, this role requires eligibility for Security Clearance. As part of the clearance process, applicants must be able to provide a minimum of five years' UK address history at the time of application.

Hybrid Working

This role is based at our Newcastle office in Cobalt Business Park and requires a minimum of three days per week on-site.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Interaction Designer to join our Advanced Technology Centre in Newcastle.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll help shape digital products and services that make a meaningful difference to people's lives. Working across a variety of industries and projects, you'll design intuitive, accessible, and user-centred experiences that solve real-world problems and deliver value for users and clients alike.

You'll work as part of multidisciplinary Agile teams alongside User Researchers, Content Designers, Developers, Product Managers, and Delivery professionals, helping to transform user needs and insights into engaging digital experiences.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Interaction Designer, you will:

• Create high-quality, accessible, and user-centred designs for digital products and services.
• Design user journeys, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and interaction patterns that deliver exceptional user experiences.
• Use research findings, user feedback, analytics, and business requirements to inform design decisions.
• Work with existing design systems, component libraries, and style guides to create consistent and scalable experiences.
• Use tools such as Figma, Sketch, and prototyping software to communicate design ideas effectively.
• Collaborate closely with User Researchers, Content Designers, Developers, Product Managers, and Delivery teams throughout the design process.
• Present design concepts and rationale to project teams and client stakeholders with confidence.
• Champion accessibility, usability, and inclusive design best practices.
• Contribute to the evolution of design systems, reusable components, and design standards.
• Share knowledge and collaborate with the wider UX and Design community through workshops, showcases, and community events.

Qualification

What We're Looking For

We're interested in candidates with experience in:

Essential Skills

• Experience as an Interaction Designer or in a similar UX-focused role.
• Experience working with design systems, component libraries, style guides, and established design patterns.
• Ability to balance stakeholder needs while creating user-centred experiences that deliver measurable value.
• Experience using AI-assisted design tools, such as Figma AI, to accelerate ideation, prototyping, and design workflows.
• Strong proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, and InVision.
• Experience with HTML, Markdown, Nunjucks, or other prototyping technologies.
• Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments and multidisciplinary Scrum teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing accessible digital products and services, with knowledge of WCAG 2.2 standards.
• Experience contributing patterns, components, or standards to established design systems.
• Familiarity with user-centred design practices within large-scale digital transformation programmes.
• Experience facilitating workshops and collaborative design sessions with stakeholders.
