SEMH Teaching Assistant

Contract: Long-term
Full Time: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: £105 - £115 per day

A supportive and inclusive school in Whitworth is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This long-term opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
The school provides a nurturing and structured environment where pupils receive the individual support they need to succeed both academically and socially. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider support team to provide tailored support, encourage positive behaviour, and promote emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
Key ResponsibilitiesProviding 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
Supporting pupils to access learning while promoting engagement and independence
Assisting with emotional regulation and behaviour management using positive and restorative approaches
Implementing EHCPs, behaviour support plans, and targeted interventions
Building positive relationships that foster trust, confidence, and resilience
Supporting pupils during lessons, breaktimes, and transitions throughout the school day
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals
Recording and reporting pupil progress and wellbeing where required
A welcoming and supportive staff team

The Successful Applicant WillHave experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs
Be calm, patient, resilient, and adaptable
Be confident supporting behaviour in a positive and consistent manner
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability
Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification (desirable)
Hold Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent de-escalation training (desirable)
Free access to CPD and safeguarding training
Dedicated consultant and ongoing support
Competitive daily pay of £105 - £115
Long-term placement through to the end of the academic year
This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS (Child and Adult Workforce) check, satisfactory references, and full compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE 2025) guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
