About the School

A welcoming secondary school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced School Librarian to manage its library and support pupils in developing their reading, research and independent learning skills.

The library is an important resource for pupils across different year groups, providing access to fiction, non-fiction, revision materials and study resources. The school is looking for someone who can maintain an organised and engaging learning environment while supporting pupils and staff with their information needs.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the school library.

Duties will include:

• Managing the organisation and day-to-day operation of the library.

• Maintaining the library catalogue and circulation records.

• Issuing, returning and renewing books and other resources.

• Assisting pupils in selecting appropriate reading materials.

• Supporting pupils with research and information retrieval.

• Maintaining an organised and welcoming library environment.

• Monitoring overdue books and managing stock.

• Recommending new books and learning resources.

• Supporting reading initiatives and school literacy activities.

• Helping teaching staff identify suitable resources for lessons.

• Establishing appropriate expectations for pupil behaviour in the library.

• Supporting quiet study and independent learning.

• Maintaining records of library use and resources.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working in a school library or another educational library environment is essential.

The successful candidate should enjoy working with young people, have strong organisational skills and understand how a school library supports teaching and learning.

Experience managing library cataloguing systems and supporting reading programmes would be beneficial.

An enhanced DBS will be required.
