Summary

The Apprentice Vehicle Converter role involves completing a Level 2 fitted interiors / vehicle conversion apprenticeship via Hopwood Hall College. You will learn the all-round conversion and build of vehicle chassis cabs into passenger transport vehicles, ensuring high quality workmanship across multiple areas of the build process.

Wage

£15,808 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

• £8 per hour, increasing after successful completion of a six-month probation period

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out the assembly and conversion of vehicle chassis into passenger transport vehicles
• Install GRP panels, glass, flooring (lino), seats, and tracking systems
• Fit and route electrical looms, cables, lights, cameras, speakers, switches, and control panels
• Undertake general fitting and finishing tasks as required across the build process
• Support activities within the finishing department including vehicle cleaning/valeting, snag activities and sealing as required
• Work with all types of trim material, mild steel, s/steel, aluminum, fiberglass, composite, plywood, ABS, general plastics, vinyl and carpet
• Use a variety of consumable materials, polyester filler, sealants, panel wipe, glues, aerosol paints and primers
• Understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications Work from technical drawings, build instructions, or supervisor guidance
• Ensure all work is completed to the required safety and quality standards
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely and effectively
• Work both independently and as part of a team to meet production schedules
• Rotate across stages of the build as directed by line managers to fulfil the apprenticeship and support business need
• Maintain a clean and organised work area and always follow health & safety procedures

• Inspect the fabric of the building for suitability of weight of installation.
• Interpret information from drawings, specifications and functional designs.
• Comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
• Use and store hand and power tools.
• Select and use personal protective equipment.
• Remove and dispose of pre-existing products.
• Assemble and install fitted furniture components in sequence.
• Install boxing, boarding and frameworks, adjusting to ensure best possible fit.
• Install and dry-fit ancillary products, for example, hinges, handles, appliances, media equipment or bathroom suite fixtures.
• Identify and report faults, snags and issues.
• Carry out rectification work following a root cause analysis, within limits of competence.
• Maintain a safe working area and return to a safe condition.
• Carry out a customer handover, including providing product guidance.
• Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
• Works collaboratively with clients or stakeholders to solve problems
• Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
• Applies team working principles.
• Complete documentation.

Training schedule

• You will work towards a Level 2 Fitted Interiors Installer qualification
• Hopwood Hall College will be the apprenticeship training provider and you will be allocated a work-based tutor from the college who will support you through your apprenticeship
• Training will be based at both Hopwood Hall College and Treka

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

• English (grade 4/C or equivalent)
• Maths (grade 4/C or equivalent)
