Purpose of Job:

 

 

The Associate contributes to the delivery of the Climate Risk team's responsibilities by applying prior experience to refine and interrogate the development of internal databases, data structures, and procedural frameworks. They bring insight and judgment to support improvements in how they are developed and used. The Associate also contributes to the refinement of climate risk methodologies, supports the drafting of policy-related content, including on broader financial related sustainability risk topics, participates climate scenario analysis and stress testing activities, and prepares presentation materials suitable for senior audiences.

 

With stronger foundational knowledge, they work with ownership across routine and moderately involved tasks, supporting the team's consistent high-quality delivery of objectives.

 

 

Background:

 

 

The Climate Risk team is a specialist second-line function of strategic importance, established to advance the Bank's institutional objectives on climate risk and contribute to the delivery of its broader green ambition. The Climate Risk team has a central role in shaping and embedding the Bank's strategic direction on climate-related financial risks, ensuring these are integrated into the Bank's activities, risk culture, and decision-making frameworks. In addition to its oversight responsibilities, the team helps guide the Bank's broader positioning on climate and green finance.

 

While currently focused on financially material climate risks, the team is well-positioned to support the Bank's evolving quantified approach to broader environmental and social topics?such as nature, pollution, and social factors?as relevant metrics and frameworks mature.

 

Within its mandate key areas of the climate risk team include:

 

? Establish and refine climate risk methodologies and frameworks, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and evolving regulatory standards including maintenance and the monitoring of their application throughout the Bank.

? Define and implement the governance structures for climate-related financial risk assessments, supporting robust oversight and accountability.

? Oversee the integration of climate risk considerations across project appraisal, portfolio management, and enterprise risk governance processes. Including establishing controls to ensure appropriateness of decisions. 

? Deliver scenario analysis and climate stress testing, providing strategic insights to inform portfolio-level and institutional decision-making. Stress testing deliver forward-looking insights that inform on portfolio resilience, strategic planning, and risk-adjusted business decisions.

? Prepare climate-related financial disclosures, ensuring consistency with regulatory requirements such as the ISSB and other global reporting frameworks.

? Drive internal and external capacity building, including engagement with regulators, multilateral development banks, and peer institutions to advance climate risk understanding and collaboration. The team advises internal stakeholders through presentations to risk committees and to Board via the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC).

? Ensure the collection, management, and maintenance of climate-relevant data, enabling data-driven strategy development and decision-making across the Bank.

? Make meaningful contributions to the refinement of climate risk and financial-related sustainability risk methodologies, ensuring outputs are clear, practical, and fit for purpose.

? Provide thoughtful inputs as well as into the structure and usability of databases, supporting their effective use in ensuring format consistency with meeting controls.

? Responsible for preparing and aggregating and reviewing climate risk data to identify trends, gaps or insights for review by senior colleagues.

? Contribute to the preparation of procedural and policy content, with a focus on producing usable, structured outputs aligned with team expectations.

 

 

Governance, Controls & Assurance:

 

 

? Provide input into strengthening internal controls and governance practices, producing outputs that are well-structured and compliant with assurance requirements.

? Prepare materials for internal/external reviews with a focus on clarity, relevance, and audit-readiness.

? Identify gaps or inconsistencies in documentation and propose fit-for-purpose improvements.

 

 

Financial Risk Review & Credit Support:

 

 

? Contribute informed input to the development of climate risk sensitivities/stress testing, ensuring outputs are relevant and useful for credit assessment.

? Lead the review and provide input into financial model assumptions, highlighting climate risk implications in a structured and credible manner.

? Support consistency in financial risk treatment through fit-for-purpose insights.

 

 

Stakeholder Collaboration & Influence:

 

 

? Engage in discussions with stakeholders (e.g. bankers and first-line climate specialists) and provide fit-for-purpose summaries of issues, comments, and agreed actions.

? Contribute to stakeholder interactions through well-prepared written inputs that add value and require minimal revision.

? Help align outputs to stakeholder expectations through structured contributions.

 

 

Communication, Presentations & Training:

 

 

? Contribute to the development of materials for senior audiences, ensuring they are well-structured, clear, and fit for purpose.

? Draft minutes, summaries, and consultation notes that demonstrate executive tone, usability.

? Help shape communication materials that are consistent, credible, and suitable for intended audiences.

 

 

Project Management & Delivery:

 

 

? Contribute to project workstreams with structured, fit-for-purpose inputs, supporting the achievement of project goals.

? Track timelines and risks with attention to producing usable outputs that can inform decisions.

? Assist in shaping project documentation that meets standards and supports smooth delivery.

? Applies contextual judgement to tasks with limited instruction, producing outputs that demonstrate understanding and ready for use.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

 

 

 

? Degree in Finance, Economics with some focus in Environmental Science or Sustainability, or equivalent experience.

? Relevant working experience with financial risk assessments and interrogating financial models with the ability to interpret how climate impacts client/ portfolio-level financial risk; ability to assess climate-related risks affecting cash flow and covenant performance.

? Working knowledge of financial-related sustainability risk approaches and international frameworks such as TCFD, ISSB, and CSRD and working on reporting aligned to these frameworks.

? Working knowledge of financing instruments and client type (e.g. loans, equity, corporate, FI, Sovereigns) and how climate risk considerations affect financial structuring.

? Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, including proficient use of Excel and active contribution to climate-related data structuring and analysis.

? Relevant working-level experience with data tools (SQL/ Python), with the ability to build and refine data inputs and database structures to support robust, usable, and relevant outputs with ability to identify and implement practical solutions to data-related challenges.

? Experience supporting or applying climate scenario analysis frameworks (e.g. NGFS) to projects or portfolios, with an understanding of underlying assumptions and use cases.

? Strong writing and communication skills aligned with executive communication expectations ? producing structured, concise, and fit-for-purpose materials, avoiding over-detail while retaining clarity of message.

? Experience where they have contributed to the drafting of policies, procedures, or methodologies, including responsibility for drafting specific sections independently, with minimal supervision.

? Ability to infer task requirements with limited context, using sound judgment past experience to shape outputs aligned with wider team goals. Extremely hard-working and delivery-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Can perform effectively in conditions of ambiguity/evolving priorities. Able to manage multiple priorities across workstreams and contribute to delivery with clear accountability for tasks.

? Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functions and influence peers and stakeholders constructively in shaping deliverables.

? Good familiarity with international climate policy developments (e.g. Paris Agreement) and how they influence financial institutions.

? Working knowledge of GHG accounting and emissions disclosures; decarbonisation plans and experience using climate data in financial risk analysis.

? Familiarity with the countries in which the Bank operates / plans to operate
