School Caretaker Location: East Hertfordshire Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 per annum (depending on experience) Contract: Full-time, Permanent Academics are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and well-established school in Hertfordshire for an experienced and reliable School Caretaker. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive individual with maintenance or facilities experience to join a supportive school environment where you'll play a key role in ensuring the site remains safe, secure and well maintained. The Role As the School Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and security of the school premises. Working as part of a friendly team, you'll ensure the buildings and grounds provide a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. Key Responsibilities Opening and locking the school site each day. Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs and general DIY tasks. Maintaining the cleanliness, safety and presentation of the buildings and grounds. Completing regular health and safety and fire safety checks. Setting up rooms for meetings, assemblies and school events. Liaising with contractors and overseeing works carried out on site. Reporting and resolving maintenance issues where appropriate. Assisting with deliveries and moving furniture or equipment. Carrying out seasonal duties, including gritting pathways and maintaining external areas. Ensuring the school remains secure and compliant with health and safety requirements.About You We're looking for someone who has: Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, maintenance or site management role. Strong practical DIY and maintenance skills. A proactive, flexible and hands-on approach. Good organisational and communication skills. The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads. A commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment.Previous experience working within a school would be beneficial but is not essential. What's on Offer?
