We are recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming alternative provision in Exeter this September. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in youth work, sports coaching, support work, or education who is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll support pupils with a range of needs including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), Autism, ADHD, and trauma-related behaviours. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you'll help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can succeed.
Many pupils benefit from structured physical activities to help regulate their emotions and return to learning positively. Your ability to build relationships, motivate young people, and adapt activities will play a key role in their daily success.
Support may be provided on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, or within the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with their learning both in and out of the classroom.
• Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and engagement.
• Adapt activities to meet individual learning, behavioural, and emotional needs.
• Support pupils with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
• Promote teamwork, communication, and social development through engaging activities.
• Assist teachers with classroom learning and daily routines.
• Take part in school trips, enrichment activities, and outreach programmes.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to monitor pupil progress.
• Attend team meetings and ongoing training to support your professional development.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
• Experienced working with children or young people (experience with SEND is desirable).
• Confident supporting positive behaviour management.
• Calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.
• Able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Adaptable and able to respond to a variety of learning and behavioural needs.
• Passionate about helping young people achieve their full potential.
• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

This role is offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis. Successful candidates will work through our agency for the initial 18-week qualifying period before transferring to a permanent contract directly with the school.
