Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

• Working alongside experienced engineers to learn electrical and mechanical maintenance techniques
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on manufacturing equipment
• Assisting with fault finding, diagnosis, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems
• Learning how to safely use engineering tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments
• Supporting the installation, testing, and commissioning of machinery and equipment
• Developing an understanding of PLCs, motors, sensors, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems
• Following health, safety, and environmental procedures always
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and completing apprenticeship coursework
• Participating in continuous improvement activities to help improve equipment reliability and performance
• Building the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to achieve the Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship standard

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

• 3 other subjects (grade 9-4/A*-C)
• English & maths (grade 9-4/A*-C)
