Social Worker - Children & Families Advice & Response

£42.23k - £47.92k per annum

Job Summary

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Children’s Services provide services for children and young people in need of care and protection.

The Council are embedding The Promise, UNCRC, GIRFEC, and the new Child Protection Guidance into the trauma informed service we provide to the children and families in our area, while rolling out the Safe and Together model.

We are now looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Social Worker to work within our Advice and Response Team to support us in this aim. 

You will be part of a team and culture that is committed to improving outcomes for the children and young people we work with. You will also work in partnership with other agencies to meet the needs of local families. 

Advice and Response are the first point of contact for welfare and protection concerns referred to Social Work, including providing professional advice and guidance to individuals, families, and groups within the community. 

The post requires:

  • Good assessment skills and the ability to engage with children, young people and their families in stressful times
  • A sound knowledge of policy and legislation
  • An understanding of assessment of needs and effective interventions
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to positively engage with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations with patience and kindness
  • Upholding of SSSC values

This full time and temporary post to cover a secondment (up to one year, but may be subject to extension)  is open to external and internal applicants.

PVG/Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria.

Where the post you are applying for is considered a Regulated Role under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment. Successful candidates who withdraw their application after the check process has started will be invoiced for the cost of the check.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by the HR &OD Manager.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
