We’re looking for an experienced Customs Manager to join our Supply Chain team in Peterborough.

This is an exciting opportunity for a customs and international trade professional to take ownership of our customs and export compliance activities, provide expert guidance across the business and help drive improvements in how we manage the movement of goods across borders.

Working closely with Logistics, Customer Services, Procurement and Supply Planning, you’ll be a key point of expertise for customs and international trade. You’ll help ensure we remain compliant with changing regulations while also supporting the business to make commercially sound decisions.

What you’ll be doing

As our Customs & International Trade Manager, you will:

• Act as a subject matter expert on UK, EU and international customs and trade regulations.
• Provide clear, practical advice to stakeholders to support effective import and export decision-making.
• Manage our relationships with external customs agents and brokers, ensuring compliance, minimising risk and delivering cost-effective solutions.
• Oversee and continuously improve our customs and international trade processes and procedures.
• Ensure import and export activities are compliant with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with Logistics and Customer Services to ensure export orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.
• Partner with Procurement and Supply Planning to ensure all import requirements are understood and followed.
• Monitor and control customs-related expenditure, including duties, agent fees and associated costs.
• Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes and drive greater efficiency across customs activities.
• Keep the business up to date with changes in customs and international trade legislation.
• Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear guidance that can be understood and applied by non-specialists.
• Support the wider Supply Chain team in achieving its KPIs and operational objectives.
• Promote best practice and a culture of compliance, continuous improvement and risk awareness.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical customs knowledge with commercial awareness and excellent stakeholder management skills .

You’ll ideally have:

• Proven experience in a customs, trade compliance or international logistics role, ideally within FMCG, food manufacturing or a similar environment.
• Strong practical knowledge of UK and EU customs procedures.
• Experience with tariff classification, rules of origin and import/export documentation.
• Experience managing third-party customs agents, brokers or logistics providers.
• A strong understanding of UK/EU trading arrangements following Brexit.
• Excellent analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail.
• The ability to interpret complex regulations and turn them into clear, practical business advice.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to work with stakeholders across Logistics, Procurement, Supply Planning and Customer Services.
• Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of customs duties, costs and opportunities for cost control.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• A proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities for continuous improvement.

A degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, Business or a related discipline would be beneficial, although equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

Desirable experience

It would be advantageous if you have:

• A recognised customs or international trade qualification, such as BIFA or an IOE&IT Diploma in Customs.
• Experience with Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status.
• Knowledge of customs duty relief schemes, including inward/outward processing and customs warehousing.
• Experience working within a multi-site manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting or managing customs compliance programmes and audits.
