About The Role

At Surrey, we are committed to ensuring that every child and young person with SEND receives the high-quality support they deserve. We are already making strong progress on this journey, working together across our SEND services to deliver timely, effective support that leads to meaningful, positive outcomes. Our approach is grounded in strong, respectful relationships with children, young people, families, schools and partner organisations. Relational and restorative practice sits at the heart of everything we do — because we know that how we work is just as important as what we deliver.

As an Assistant Quality Manager within our SEND Quality Team, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of Surrey's SEND Quality Framework. The team leads quality assurance activity across statutory SEND processes, helping to ensure practice is legally compliant, consistent and focused on improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will support the coordination and administration of audit activity, helping to ensure that quality assurance processes run smoothly, findings are recorded accurately and learning is captured in a way that supports service improvement. This will include supporting audit planning, maintaining records, collating data and assisting with reporting across the Quality Team's programme of work.

This is a key support role within a busy and developing team, contributing to audit, feedback, training and inspection readiness activity. You will work closely with Quality Managers and wider SEND colleagues to help ensure that learning from quality assurance is organised, accessible and translated into practical improvement.

Your key responsibilities as an Assistant Quality Manager will include:

  • Supporting the coordination and administration of SEND quality assurance activity, including audit planning, scheduling and follow-up
  • Maintaining accurate audit records, trackers and data systems to support effective monitoring and reporting
  • Collating audit findings, feedback and quality assurance information to help identify themes, risks and areas for improvement
  • Supporting Quality Managers with EHCP audits, annual review audits, lived experience feedback and thematic deep-dive activity
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports, briefings and training materials so that learning is shared clearly and consistently
  • Working collaboratively with SEND colleagues and partners to support timely, accurate and child-centred quality assurance processes
  • Contributing to inspection readiness by helping to organise evidence, data and learning from quality assurance activity

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of SEND quality assurance in Surrey, supporting work that helps improve practice, strengthen consistency and make a positive difference for children, young people and their families.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Experience of working in SEND, education, children's services or a related statutory/public sector environment
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate activity, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Good analytical skills, including the ability to collate information, identify themes and present findings clearly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work sensitively and professionally with colleagues and partners
  • Confidence using IT systems, spreadsheets and records to maintain accurate information and support reporting
  • A commitment to inclusive practice, continuous improvement and improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND

To apply, we request that you submit a CV and answer the following 4 questions:

  1. Please describe your experience of supporting quality assurance, audit, monitoring or administrative processes within SEND, education, children's services or another statutory/public sector setting.
  2. Please give an example of how you have organised a busy workload involving multiple deadlines, records or tasks. How did you prioritise your work and ensure information was accurate and up to date?
  3. Please describe a time when you collated information, data or feedback and helped identify themes, risks or areas for improvement. How did you present or share that information?
  4. The Assistant Quality Manager role requires working sensitively with colleagues and partners to support improvement. Please provide an example of how you have built effective working relationships and communicated clearly in a professional setting.

Join Surrey County Council and be part of a service that is ambitious, collaborative and dedicated to making a real difference.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 16/08/2026 with interviews planned to follow.
