The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Delivery Director to join our Amey Consulting Rail team, taking a leading role in shaping, delivering, and growing our rail consulting portfolio.
This is a newly created role supporting the DDPF programme, where you will be substantially funded to lead the successful delivery of a portfolio of work, while also providing strategic leadership across new and emerging bids, such as major electrification opportunities.
You’ll play a critical role in ensuring we deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients, maximise the value of our framework agreements, and build a future pipeline of work that strengthens our position in the rail sector.
This is a high-impact leadership role, offering the opportunity to influence both delivery excellence and business growth.
The role
As Delivery Director, you will be accountable for leading the delivery of a portfolio of projects and programmes, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, to budget and to the highest quality standards.
You will hold full P&L responsibility, driving strong commercial performance while maintaining a relentless focus on client satisfaction and long-term relationships.
Working collaboratively across practices, business development, and the wider Consulting leadership team, you will ensure the right solutions, people, and capabilities are deployed to deliver for our clients and grow our business.
In addition, you will support and lead key bid activities, bringing your delivery expertise to secure and mobilise major new opportunities.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the successful delivery of a portfolio of rail consulting projects or major programmes, ensuring performance against time, cost, quality, and safety targets
- Holding full P&L accountability, including achieving agreed revenue and margin targets
- Developing and executing strategies to maximise performance and value from framework contracts
- Building strong, collaborative relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
- Leading and inspiring multidisciplinary teams, forecasting resource needs and working closely with practice leads to deploy capability effectively
- Identifying and securing additional work opportunities, contributing to pipeline growth through close partnership with business development
- Supporting and leading bid activity and mobilisation for major opportunities, including programmes such as electrification projects
- Managing risks and ensuring robust governance, compliance, and contract performance in line with Amey standards
- Promoting a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture aligned with Amey’s Zero Code
- Developing supply chain relationships and ensuring effective partner performance
What you will bring to us:
We’re looking for a strategic, inclusive, and forward-thinking leader who thrives in a dynamic environment.
You’ll bring:
- A proven track record of delivering large-scale projects or portfolios within rail, infrastructure, or consulting environments
- Strong commercial acumen, with experience owning and managing P&L performance
- Experience building and maintaining senior client relationships and leading complex stakeholder environments
- Demonstrable success in bids, business development, or framework growth, including mobilisation of new work
- Excellent leadership capability, with the ability to inspire, develop and align teams across a matrix organisation
- Strong communication, influencing and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive outcomes
- A collaborative mindset, bringing together diverse expertise to deliver innovative solutions
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience, with professional credentials in project, programme, or business management desirable
