Job summary
At Defence Primary Healthcare we are an inclusive, dedicated organisation working to provide outstanding care to our entitled personnel. Are you a GP looking for a role where you can make a real difference, work alongside the military, and rediscover the satisfaction that first drew you to medicine? We are seeking a professional, patient-focused GP to join the friendly Reserves Medical team at Baden Powell House, Catterick Garrison. This is an opportunity to practise medicine in a way that allows you to do a thorough, meaningful job. You will spend time with members of the Reserve Forces, exploring their health, fitness and occupational requirements, helping them return to work, remain deployable, or prepare for military service. The focus is on the application of core GP skills within an occupational setting, without the need for specialist occupational health qualifications to start the role. This part time role offers 27 hours per week and all requests to work flexibly will be considered, allowing for business needs, and reviewed annually. The salary will be pro-rata. Benefits
The postholder will provide occupational healthcare to members of the Reserve forces in line with General Medical Council standards and relevant Defence policy to meet Commander Defence HealthCare Recovery Groups (Comd DHRG) objectives for best patient care. As agreed by Comd DHRG, the postholder may be required to support Primary Medical Care services for Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) in the UK at regional level to enhance and sustain operational effectiveness. The role plays an important part in force protection and military readiness, helping to ensure that the Armed Forces have personnel who are medically fit, employable and prepared for the demands placed upon them. For many GPs, one of the greatest frustrations of modern practice is the feeling that there is never enough time to do the job properly. Endless demand, administrative burden and time pressure can make even a successful day feel incomplete. This role offers something different. The 27-hour working week genuinely feels like 27 hours. Clinical time is protected, administrative expectations are realistic, and you will work within a well-supported multidisciplinary team with excellent peer support and training. The pace allows you to engage properly with your patients, consider complex issues carefully, and reach well-reasoned decisions. There is time for discussion, learning, and professional development. At the end of the day, you can leave knowing that your work has been completed to a high standard. About us
Our success depends on our people, our Whole Force, regular and reservist military, civil servants and contractors, all working as one, working together seamlessly to deliver for us. Our civil servants are a central part of this Whole Force, developing strategy, making policy, supporting ministerial decision-making and Parliamentary processes. In fact, with over 2,000 different roles working across 650 sites around the world, now really is an excellent time to join one of the largest, most exciting departments in government. The Ministry of Defence is committed to attracting and retaining people from across the full range of backgrounds and enabling flexible ways of working as the norm. We offer maternity, adoption or shared parental leave of up to 26 weeks full pay followed by 13 weeks of statutory pay and a further 13 weeks unpaid, and paternity leave of 2 weeks full pay. In return, you can expect a department that helps you learn and develop that recognises your expertise and contribution, both as an individual and part of a team. If you've ever wanted to do more, see more, go further or be better, we have roles in more professions and vocations than ever before. Let's see where your future will take you, together. Details
