Job Summary
This prestigious two-year Global Urology Fellowship is designed to provide ST 6+ urologists as well as SAS doctors and international candidates, with a structured, progressive curriculum aimed at transitioning from a competent assistant in complex private care (Year 1) to an independent, high-volume robotic sub-specialist (Year 2). Fellows will gain hands-on experience in world-class institutions, Cleveland Clinic London and UCLH, while mastering advanced robotic techniques, perioperative leadership, and sub-specialized surgical skills. The fellowship emphasizes clinical excellence, academic achievement, and professional development through a combination of supervised operating, independent practice, research, and quality improvement initiatives. Training outcomes are validated against international standards using the ORDNA digital platform, ensuring competency in Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and surgical proficiency. Fellows will also contribute to governance, teaching, and curriculum evaluation, with the goal of becoming leaders in robotic urology. This fellowship post has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons as part of the RCS Senior Clinical Fellowship Scheme. Facility, Institute and Department Summary

Year 1: Cleveland Clinic London (Foundation Year) The first year focuses on developing perioperative leadership skills, mastering complex robotic assisting techniques, and gaining multi-specialty exposure. Fellows will demonstrate proficiency in pre- and post-operative care for high-acuity patients, assist in advanced robotic surgeries, and broaden their anatomical knowledge through interdisciplinary collaboration. Academic goals include participating in morbidity and mortality meetings, initiating a research project, and completing a quality improvement audit. Progress is assessed via surgical logbooks and quarterly appraisals. Attendance will also be expected at all the MDT’s and the monthly governance meetings. The postholder would also be expected to assist the M&M lead, currently Mr Hines, with organization and presentation of the cases. The postholder would also be expected to undertake one research project and one quality improvement project during the post. Year 2: UCLH (Consolidation Year) The second year transitions fellows to independent operating as high-volume robotic surgeons, aiming for proficiency in performing 80-100 robotic cases independently. Fellows will achieve Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in surgical skills, error management, patient safety, and interprofessional communication, validated through the ORDNA system. Academic objectives include publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts, supervising junior trainees, and collecting data to validate the fellowship curriculum. Assessment involves formative and summative evaluations, surgical video reviews, and EPA sign-offs. A significant part of the time will be spent in the operating theatres where the postholder will be involved in all urological surgeries. They will also be expected to join Colorectal and gynaecological lists when the urology team is not operating, this will broaden the post holder’s surgical exposure and prepare them for future career in multidisciplinary surgery. There is no commitment to the outpatient department but there is an expectation that the postholder will be involved with the consultants and the fellows on the Surgical ward in the care of surgical inpatients.
