An exciting opportunity has come up in our care home for a Pastoral Care Co-ordinator. The main responsibility of this role is to provide religious support for our residents.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role are:
- To arrange daily Mass with Priest(s)
- To ensure that Residents, who want to attend daily Mass, have this opportunity, including assistance to and from chapel.
- To bring Communion, or arrange for Communion to be taken to those are unable to attend Mass.
- To know how to prepare for Holy Mass in relation to the occasion eg Christmas, Lent, Holy week, funerals etc.
- To ensure that church items are maintained appropriately ie liaise with appropriate personnel.
- If there is no Mass taking place, to arrange group live stream Mass, and distribute Communion at Communion time.
- To arrange for the Sacrament of the Sick to be administered to Residents whose health condition is deteriorating/ dying.
- To arrange 3 monthly ‘Anointing of the Sick’ Services for Residents.
- To have Rosary with Residents – either in chapel or in another designated area.
- To have weekly/monthly prayer/bible group meetings depending on Residents’ wishes.
- To visit Residents individually in their rooms according to their wishes.
- To make themselves available during shift for one hour in the Pastoral Care room should anyone wish to have a chat/ pray.
- To have an understanding of the religions of other Residents who are not Catholics.
- To make arrangements with Priests/Vicars/Pastors/Ministers of other Religions to visit Resident of their Faith, in accordance with Residents’ wishes. Assist in arranging services/events relating to their Faiths.
- To organise various other spiritual/ religious activities for Residents, eg DVD of the lives of various saints, songs of Praise, Christmas/Easter messages from the Pope, meditative music.
- To spend time to sit with the dying/ arrange others to sit with the dying.
- To support family members when Residents are dying.
- To support families when trying to arrange funeral service in accordance with Residents/their representatives stated wishes.
- To attend Funeral Services of Residents as far as possible.
- To have contact and good relationship with local church groups eg SVP, Legion of Mary, Knights of St Columba, Salvation Army etc.
- To maintain accurate records in accordance with NCCT Policies and Procedures.
- Liaise with the House Superior for guidance on pastoral care activity if there is a Community of Sisters on site.
- To provide the Regional Superior with a monthly update.
