This is an exciting developmental opportunity to join the Pain Service as a Band 5 Staff Nurse on a 6 month Secondment. The role will involve working predominantly within the Chronic Pain Outpatient Service at Rugby ST Cross Hospital. The role supports consultant-led clinics delivering treatments including intravenous lignocaine infusions and trigger point injections. The post holder will provide safe and effective patient care, clinical monitoring, patient education and support the smooth day-to-day running of chronic pain treatment clinics. As part of the wider Pain Service there will be opportunities to gain experience with the Acute Pain Team at University Hospital Coventry and develop knowledge of PCA, epidural and regional analgesia techniques. - Provide nursing support within consultant-led chronic pain clinics, ensuring the safe delivery of prescribed treatments.
- Prepare, monitor and care for patients undergoing chronic pain interventions, including lignocaine infusions and trigger point injection procedures.
- Undertake comprehensive patient assessments and clinical observations before, during and after treatment, including ECG monitoring where required.
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatment plans and outcomes on the Trust Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.
- Ensure clinics run efficiently by organising documentation, reviewing results and supporting smooth patient flow.
- Maintain a safe clinical environment in accordance with Trust policies, Health and Safety legislation, and professional standards.
- Identify, report and act upon clinical risks, incidents, equipment faults and environmental hazards.
- Work autonomously and professionally in line with the NMC Code, Trust policies and statutory requirements.
- Participate in supervised learning opportunities with the Acute Pain Team to develop specialist pain management knowledge and skills.
- Support the management of patients receiving PCA, epidural and regional analgesia techniques under the guidance of senior pain nurses.
- Attend and complete pain management education, training and competency programmes to maintain and develop specialist practice.
