Sample Reception Technician

The role

With laboratory facilities in Leicester and Poole, Environmental Chemistry Testing Limited (ECT), a Phenna Group company, partners with clients across the UK to provide a comprehensive range of chemistry and microbiology testing services. These services support all sectors of the construction industry, including residential, commercial, rail, road, airports, tunnelling, mining, utilities, and brownfield regeneration projects.

ECT is seeking a new team member to join our Sample Reception Department at our expanding chemistry laboratory based in Leicester city centre. The Sample Reception is the first stage of the laboratory testing process and plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of our analytical services.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail and thrive in a fast-paced working environment. They will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently, and committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy while handling and processing samples.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sample Reception Manager, your daily work load will consist of registering soil, water and construction material samples into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Build strong commercial relationships with key suppliers and clients helping to ensure continuity in service delivery

Completing all quality requirements as per ISO17025 accreditation requirements and the ECT Quality Management System.

Disposing of tested samples into designated waste skips and washing of transport boxes

Performing other business related duties as required by the management team

Maintaining a safe working environment and complete Health, Safety and Environmental Tasks as required.

Specific requirements

High degree of comfort using IT equipment and software (full training provided)
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel highly advantageous
Excellent verbal and written English skills
GCSEs (Grade C/5) in maths and English language

Your Journey with ECT

At ECT we offer a career not just a job. In your first six months you will develop your basic skills as well as become fully proficient in a range of duties within the Sample Reception Department. On successfully passing your 6-month probationary period, you will automatically progress to Level 2.

Once at Level two, your skills and knowledge will grow further. Within around 12 - 18 months your next step is Level 3, to achieve this level you will be able to demonstrate the ability to work autonomously completing all required tasks correctly and on time.

From Level 3 onwards each progression step is matched with a pay rise ensuring that your personal development is kept step in step with your earnings. The speed at which you progress is ultimately down to you and how you apply yourself in the role.
