Compound Manager

RMS are working with an outstanding automotive client, we are looking for an experienced and qualified Compound Managerto join the team. Our client is well-known for providing vehicle storage, inspection, maintenance, dispatch and transportation facilities.

Job Overview:

The main responsibility is to motivate, direct and control the Inbound / Outbound Compound team to achieve annual budgeted targets. The site operates a shift system, to ensure minimum delay of all vehicles processed, whilst maintaining the highest possible quality standards, in the most cost effective way. To manage the delivery & storage requirements for all customer products from the inbound delivery to outbound distribution, ensuring adequate storage is available to meet the targets set by the customer.

Key Responsibilities:

Inbound Operations Management

* Coordinate and manage the receiving of vehicles and other inventory items, ensuring accurate checks, inspections, and documentation upon arrival
* Oversee unloading and staging processes, ensuring that all inbound vehicles are checked for quality, damages, and adherence to client or company standards
* Work closely with transport and supplier teams to ensure timely and efficient inbound scheduling and documentation
* Implement and monitor procedures for quality assurance during vehicle intake, including damage checks and accurate inventory tracking

Outbound Operations Management

* Coordinate the scheduling and dispatching of vehicles from the compound to ensure on-time delivery to clients, dealerships, or other locations
* Ensure vehicles are properly inspected, prepared, and documented before leaving the compound, maintaining accurate records of dispatch
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address specific delivery requirements or special handling instructions
* Develop contingency plans for high-demand periods and manage outbound logistics to minimise bottlenecks and maximize throughput

Compound Management

* As Compound Manager you will maintain an organised and efficient compound layout, ensuring optimal use of space and smooth vehicle flow for both inbound and outbound operations
* Conduct regular inventory audits to maintain accurate vehicle records
* Ensure that compound operations comply with all safety and regulatory standards, addressing any issues as they arise

Leadership and Development

* As Compound Manager you will lead, mentor, and train the compound workforce to ensure they meet performance standards
* Schedule and allocate resources effectively to manage high-volume periods and ensure smooth inbound/outbound operations
* Foster a team environment that promotes safety, efficiency, and a commitment to quality across all compound activities
* Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback and development plans for team members

Process Improvement and Reporting

* Develop and implement process improvements to optimise compound efficiency, reduce errors, and improve throughput
* Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as turnaround times, inventory accuracy, damage rates, and despatch timelines
* Analyse operational data to identify trends and recommend improvements in logistics, compound flow, and inventory management
* Work with leadership to ensure that compound operations align with broader group goals and client expectations

Experience:

* 5+ years of experience of working as Compound Manager, or involved in compound management, logistics, or warehouse operations, with at least 2 years in a managerial role

Education/Certifications:

* Certification in one or more; Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field (preferred but not required). or have the equivalent experience

Skills:

* As Compound Manager you will have a strong understanding of inbound and outbound logistics processes, vehicle handling, and quality control standards
* Knowledge of inventory management systems and logistics software for real-time tracking and reporting
* Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing and developing a team in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and clients.
