This is a rewarding and impactful role where you will work directly with families, children, and professionals to ensure that the voices of Torbay’s SEND families are at the heart of local support and provision. As a key point of contact, you will help families feel listened to, informed, and confident in navigating services—making a genuine difference to their experience and outcomes.
As a SEND Family Liaison Coordinator, you will play a vital role in strengthening communication and collaboration between families, schools, and services across the local area. Working in a relational and person-centred way, you will support families to share their views, understand available support, and access the right services for their children.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Acting as a first point of contact for families, listening to their views and providing clear, accessible information about local SEND support and provision.
- Working alongside the Parent Carer Forum to strengthen partnership working and ensure family voices are heard.
- Facilitating effective communication between school staff, external agencies, and families to support joined-up working and improved outcomes.
- Organising and delivering workshops and information sessions for parents and carers.
- Supporting families to navigate services, resources, and support networks with confidence.
About You:
- You will bring compassion, empathy, and a strong commitment to inclusion, alongside:
- Experience working with children and families, ideally in an education or social care context.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and positive relationships.
- A strong understanding of the challenges faced by families of children with SEND.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team.

Essential Skills & Experience
You must be able to demonstrate:
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills, including the ability to collate and present family feedback.
- Experience working directly with children and families, particularly those with SEND.
- Awareness of barriers to engagement for vulnerable families.
- Confidence in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Competence in using IT systems for case management and reporting.
- Knowledge of local SEND services and safeguarding procedures.
- Relevant qualifications or experience, alongside safeguarding training (Level 2 or above).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

This position is for a fixed term of 12 months from the start date.
This post will be carrying out Regulated Activity. As such the post will require an Enhanced Criminal Record Check plus an additional Barred List Check. Essential:

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Either qualifications or experience in working alongside SEND children or families in any Sector.
- Safeguarding training (Level 2 or above).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
