Infrastructure Architect (IT)

£52.9 - £60.6 per hourEstimated
Full-time

At CGI, we design resilient technology foundations that enable complex programmes to deliver securely, efficiently and with confidence. As a Senior Infrastructure Architect, you?ll shape and assure infrastructure solutions for large-scale bids, deals and projects, influencing critical technology decisions from strategy through to delivery. You?ll take ownership of infrastructure architecture, challenge designs and find creative ways to balance business needs, risk, compliance and technical quality. Working across Solution Architecture, engineering, security, data and delivery teams, you?ll be supported by a collaborative community of experts while having the scope to lead partners and suppliers, influence the Technical Design Authority and ensure technology investments deliver sustainable value for our clients. CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ?Best Employer? by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you?ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We?ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go. Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position. Candidate profile: In this role, you will take ownership of infrastructure architecture across large-scale bids, deals and projects, bridging the gap between Solution Architects, development teams, business stakeholders and project management. You?ll provide strategic guidance and technical leadership, defining and validating infrastructure solutions that balance requirements, value, risk and long-term architectural direction. You?ll work closely with the Technical Design Authority (TDA), solution partners and subcontractors to provide assurance that designs are fit for purpose and meet statutory, regulatory, contractual and non-functional requirements. You?ll have the opportunity to challenge established thinking and shape effective solutions, while drawing on expertise across CGI?s wider architecture community to ensure consistent best practice across infrastructure, application, security and data domains.

  • Lead & Architect: Define and validate infrastructure architectures for complex bids, deals and delivery programmes.
  • Assure & Govern: Provide architectural assurance to the TDA and programme leadership, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose.
  • Validate & Protect: Ensure infrastructure designs fulfil non-functional requirements and applicable statutory, regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Align & Optimise: Maintain alignment with relevant Solution, Reference and Target architectures while maximising value from technology investment.
  • Guide & Influence: Provide strategic infrastructure guidance to technical, business and programme stakeholders.
  • Manage & Mitigate: Identify architectural risks and provide guidance to manage significant technical and delivery exposure.
  • Partner & Deliver: Lead infrastructure solution definition with solution partners and subcontractors and document designs ready for delivery.
  • Collaborate & Improve: Work across architecture disciplines to strengthen consistency and promote reusable best practices.
  • Connect & Support: Bring architecture, development, business and project teams together to enable informed technology decisions and successful delivery.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role You?ll bring substantial Infrastructure Architecture experience within complex enterprise environments, with the technical breadth and leadership skills to define, challenge and assure solutions across large-scale programmes or bids. You?ll combine sound architectural judgement with strong stakeholder management, taking ownership of decisions while collaborating effectively with architecture, engineering, business, supplier and delivery teams.
  • Extensive experience in Infrastructure Architecture, ideally across complex enterprise programmes, major projects or large-scale bids.
  • Proven experience defining and documenting infrastructure solutions through architecture and detailed delivery design activities.
  • Strong architecture governance and assurance capability, including working with Technical Design Authorities or equivalent governance forums.
  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements, with experience assuring their fulfilment within technology solutions.
  • Good understanding of statutory, regulatory and contractual compliance as it relates to infrastructure architecture and solution delivery.
  • Proven ability to assess and manage architectural and technical risk within complex environments.
  • Experience working with Solution, Reference and Target architectures and applying architectural standards consistently.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across technical, business and programme audiences.
  • Experience leading solution partners, suppliers or subcontractors through infrastructure design and delivery.
  • Broad understanding of adjacent architecture domains, including application, security and data architecture.
  • Strong technical leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and develop pragmatic solutions.
