Accounts Apprentice

Summary

The apprentice will receive exposure to a variety of tasks across the practice whilst working across both the VAT team and the Accounts team, assisting in the preparation and delivery of a mix of services offered by the practice to clients from an array of different industries.

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Accounts Apprentice will support the finance team with day-to-day tasks while developing their knowledge through on-the-job training and formal study.

Typical duties will include:

• Helping to maintain accurate financial records and filing systems
  Assisting with bank reconciliations and checking transactions against statements.
• Preparing and updating spreadsheets in Excel.
• Assisting with the processing of purchase invoices and sales invoices.
• Assisting with entering data into accounting software.
• Supporting the team with year-end preparations for limited company, partnerships, and sole traders.
• Handling general finance administration, such as scanning, photocopying, and responding to email queries.

To be considered for this position, Applicants must have a Level 2 AAT qualification.

What you'll learn

Course contents

• Assist with the investigation of, and response to, financial information queries.
• Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
• Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information to users of accounts.
• Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
• Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
• Investigate, resolve, or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
• Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
• Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
• Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
• Communicate using a range of approaches and media, with an understanding of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard:

• The successful applicant will be allocated with an assessor who will visit them in the workplace once every 6-8 weeks.
• In addition, they will attend weekly classes in college to work towards their AAT Level 3 qualification.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

• English (grade C/4)
• Maths (grade C/4)

AAT Level 2 Qualification in:

AAT Level 2 (grade Pass)
