Commercial Finance Manager

Overview

As the Commercial Finance Manager, you will take ownership of the finance function across multiple companies within the Group, ensuring strong financial control whilst providing commercial insight to support operational and strategic decision making. This role combines traditional finance management with commercial analysis, business partnering and continuous improvement. You will become a key member of the senior leadership team.

Commercial Finance Manager – Responsibilities

Financial Management
Prepare accurate monthly management accounts across the Group.
Produce annual budgets, rolling forecasts and weekly/monthly cash flow forecasts.
Manage daily cash flow and working capital.
Prepare VAT returns and ensure statutory compliance.
Manage payroll, pensions and statutory reporting.
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, finance providers and HMRC.
Support year-end accounts and statutory reporting.
Maintain strong financial controls across all Group companies.

Commercial Finance
Analyse customer, contract, project and division profitability.
Identify revenue leakage and opportunities to improve margins.
Review pricing strategies and recommend improvements.
Produce financial models for investment opportunities.
Challenge existing processes to improve profitability and efficiency.
Cash Flow & Working Capital
Daily cash position reporting.
Rolling cash flow forecasting.
Credit control oversight.
Working capital optimization.
Customer credit limit reviews.
Improve debtor days and cash generation.
Construction & Project Finance
CIS compliance.
Applications for Payment.
Valuations.
Variations.
Retentions.
Final Accounts.
Project cost reporting.
Contract profitability.

Operational & Commercial Reporting
Revenue, gross margin and net profit reporting.
Customer and contract profitability.
Fleet, fuel, labour and disposal cost reporting.
Overhead analysis.
Budget vs forecast reporting.
KPI dashboards.

Systems & Continuous Improvement
Improve financial reporting.
Strengthen internal controls.
Enhance Sage reporting.
Improve Purchase Order controls.
Review finance processes and identify efficiencies.
Support implementation of new finance systems.
Strategic Business Partner
Support strategic decision making.
Produce financial models for investments.
Assess ROI across fleet and infrastructure.
Support acquisitions and growth.
Review pricing strategy.
Present recommendations to Directors.

Commercial Finance Manager – Requirements
Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Commercial Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Senior Management Accountant experience.
Strong Sage and Excel skills.
Management accounts, budgeting and forecasting experience.
Cash flow forecasting experience.
Commercial awareness and analytical ability.
Experience across multiple entities or group companies.
Full UK Driving License due to office location.
Commercial mindset.
Proactive and solutions focused.

Commercial Finance Manager – Desirable but not essential
ACA, ACCA, CIMA or qualified by experience.
Construction, waste, logistics, engineering or plant hire experience.
CIS knowledge.
