Are you a Teaching Assistant looking for an exciting new opportunity? The Sensory and Physical Teaching Service (SaPTS) is looking for Sensory Support Assistant to work in schools across East Riding supporting Children and Young People with a hearing impairment. This role requires the successful candidate to be based in two settings throughout a working week. A mileage allowance is payable. This is a part time role for 3 days per week.
SaPTS supports children and young people in education settings across the East Riding of Yorkshire. SaPTS aims to meet the needs of children and young people with hearing or vision impairment and physical disability from birth to 25 years of age. SaPTS is comprised of three teams, Hearing Impaired, Vision Impaired and Physical Difficulties. This role is initially for the Hearing Impaired team with the possibility of supporting the Vision team in the future dependent on service need.
A British Sign Language (BSL) level 2 qualification is desirable or a willingness to train to this level. An NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is essential, along with skills and experience of working with a range of children and young people in education settings.
Duties involve supporting deaf children in their learning environment, enabling access to lesson content, and supporting social activities to develop social and communication skills. The successful candidate will work closely with a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf and setting staff to prepare resources, deliver 1:1 specialist support, in class support and manage specialist equipment. The successful candidate should be proactive, able to adapt activities based on pupil responses/needs, and establish productive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model with high expectations. Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people is imperative.
The successful candidate must be prepared to work in a range of settings including preschool, primary, secondary and colleges.
