Health Visitor - Children's Services

£14.9 - £17.3 per hourEstimated

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Visitor to join the Children and Families Health Visiting service in East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

We are fully committed to the key ambition and aims of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC), to provide children and young people with the best possible start in life. The post holder will have good knowledge of The Promise and the Children and Young Peoples Scotland Act 2014 and be expected to work in collaboration with families, partner agencies and a range of stakeholders to deliver high quality, needs led, evidence based care within a designated caseload. The post holder will be required to utilise a strengths based approach to engage families and be able to identify risks and co-ordinate plans of care for children.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Milngavie Clinic involve working across the local authority area.
  • Permanent Contract
  • Part-time position (22.5 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for this post is a core shift pattern of 08.30-16.30 for three days of the week to be confirmed. We understand the importance of flexibility and may consider alternative working days in line with existing team arrangements to ensure service needs are met.
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • The post holder will provide leadership across professional and organisational teams, with a focus on leading audit and quality improvement and promoting and supporting development within the service.
  • To undertake statutory duties on behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde with respect to individual children within your caseload to assess, improve and support the wellbeing of children.
  • To work with all professionals involved with the child or young person and their families to assess, analyse, develop and agree a multiagency child’s plan based on the agreed policies and procedures. Implement and monitor the plan to endeavour to ensure the child’s needs are met and desired outcomes achieved.
  • To work in partnership with individual children’s families, working with other agencies and key stakeholders to ensure that all parties undertake their responsibilities within the agreed plan.
  • To maintain effective written and verbal communications with families/carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure family needs are met and appropriate information is shared and documented in the locally agreed record keeping system in accordance with NMC guidelines and current legislation.
  • To support NHS Scotland’s values of quality, teamwork, care and compassion, dignity and respect, openness, honesty and responsibility through the application of appropriate behaviours and attitudes.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Knowledgeable in the area of caseload management, child protection, working with families presenting with complex needs and health improvement work.
  • Good communication and organisational skills, coupled with an ability to work within a team setting as well as independently, will be essential requirements of the post.
  • A Registered Nurse with current NMC and have a qualification in Health Visiting or Public Health Nursing.
  • Registered nurse or midwife at degree level or equivalent
  • Post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing and be registered or
  • Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or
  • Can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through, for example, completion of NES modules on Assessment, Leadership, and Critical Thinking.
  • Can provide advice using significant understanding and application of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection
  • Knowledge of health and social care pathways related to safeguarding, early intervention and protection
  • Experience of using a strength based approach working in partnership with families
  • Able to use a number of assessment tools used to decide referral pathways
  • Management of risks and concerns using critical thinking to enable effective decision making
  • Ability to provide professional advice within a multi-agency setting that puts children’s interests and safety first
  • Can lead discussions and make decisions based on an assessment of a range of factors in complex situations
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, service standards and improvements
  • An ongoing commitment to continuing professional development
