Assistant Accountant

Robert Half are pleased to be partnering with an established organisation based in Radley (Abingdon) to recruit an Assistant Accountant . The Assistant Accountant will receive a salary of up to £35,000 plus attractive benefits including hybrid remote working and free lunch!

Primary responsibilities;

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the purchase and sales ledger functions.
• Process supplier invoices, credit notes and payments accurately and in a timely manner.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements.
• Ensure VAT is accounted for correctly across all transactions.
• Manage daily banking activities, including processing receipts and payments.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
• Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
• Monitor outstanding debtor balances and proactively follow up overdue accounts.
• Maintain effective relationships with parents, customers and other stakeholders while managing collections.
• Prepare and post monthly journals, including accruals, prepayments and other adjustments.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.

Key experience and attributes;

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Proven experience managing purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
• Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Experience posting journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Strong bank reconciliation and cash management experience.
• Proactive and self-motivated.
• Reliable and dependable with a strong sense of accountability.
