Band 7 Macmillan Dietitian

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative Dietitian to join the Therapies team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the development and delivery of a Haematology Cancer Prehabilitation Service. The successful candidate will provide highly specialist nutritional assessment and intervention for patients within haematology, working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes before treatment. The role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership, service development, education, research and quality improvement activities. There is an opportunity to help shape and influence an innovative cancer prehabilitation service within one of the UK's largest teaching hospitals. You will work alongside expert clinicians across therapies, nursing and medical teams, developing new pathways of care and contributing to service transformation. In addition to a diverse and rewarding clinical caseload, the role offers opportunities to lead projects, undertake audit and research, support workforce development, and influence the future direction of specialist dietetic services.

We are looking for an HCPC-registered Dietitian with significant post-registration experience, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a passion for advancing nutritional care for patients with cancer.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will
  • Provide a professional nutrition and dietetic service to the haematology cancer prehabilitation service
  • Be a key member of specialist multidisciplinary teams
  • Design and implement innovative pathways to optimise patient care
  • Line manage other Dietitians/Dietetic Assistants
  • Work closely with professional lead at UHB to continue to develop the dietetic service
  • Contribute to the training of student Dietitians on clinical placement
  • Based at QEHB (Employees will be expected to demonstrate a flexible working approach and move across sites as required to deliver care based on organisational and service need).
  • The postholder will be expected to work 5 out of 7 days, which could include working Saturdays and/or Sundays.
You will be expected to work at least one bank holiday throughout the year.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
Desirable
  • MSc or equivalent experience e.g. advanced level of clinical practice / relevant postgraduate, professionally accredited courses
Experience

  • Significant post-graduate experience in relevant specialist area
  • Practical skill & in-depth experience in a multi-disciplinary setting in relevant specialist field evidenced by a learning portfolio and leading to advanced theoretical knowledge in area/s of clinical practice
  • Significant to substantial postgraduate experience of working in a specialist capacity in multi-disciplinary teams leading to the acquisition of advanced theoretical knowledge and highly developed skills.
  • Experience of training Dietetic students
  • Evidence of relevant continued professional development in following areas
  • Clinical e.g.
  • Accredited specialist training courses
  • Attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA
  • Advanced Diploma in Dietetic Practice
  • Attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences
  • Teaching e.g.
  • Presentation skills
  • Clinical supervisory skills training for student training
  • Communication skill training / counselling skills training
  • Cognitive behaviour therapy training (CBT)
  • High level of dietetic knowledge gained through attendance at postgraduate specialist courses
  • In depth knowledge of research and audit
  • In depth knowledge of nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools
  • Knowledge and experience of all types of nutritional support
  • Maintains excellent knowledge of clinical developments
  • Requires working knowledge of IT / computer programmes

  • Evidence of ongoing regular attendance on post-graduate training courses and clinical development at highly specialist level
  • Evidence of attendance at national conferences
  • Knowledge of the Strategic direction of the Trust
