Main duties of the job

• There is an exciting opportunity to join our JAG accredited Endoscopy unit. The endoscopy unit is a fast-paced area with 4 procedure rooms. We undertake diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (upper GI, lower GI, and respiratory procedures).
• You will be responsible for working in the Endoscopy Decontamination room. You will adhere to strict IPC and JAG guidelines whilst decontaminating endoscopes, using AEDs and drying cabinets. You will be responsible for liaising with internal and external authorised persons. The role includes, ensuring paperwork is completed, inclusive of daily/weekly logbooks and traceability of scopes.
• The role will be to provide and support training for other members of staff working alongside you in Decontamination, working to JAG and unit standards.

Job responsibilities

• To ensure the safety of all patients undergoing endoscopy by ensuring efficiency of all decontamination processes through sound management of equipment and training in decontamination in accordance with national and local guidelines.
• To take responsibility for the running and maintenance of the decontamination area, ensuring all flexible endoscopes and accessories are cleaned, disinfected and appropriately tracked using the electronic tracking system in accordance with national and local guidelines.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Experience of working in a healthcare environment (at least six months experience)
• Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality and to maintain confidentiality at all times
• Demonstrates good interpersonal skills
• Able to communicate clearly, verbally and written
• Acute hospital healthcare experience
• GCSE in English and Maths
• Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 1
• Good verbal/communication skills - ability to articulate to internal and external team members
• Have the ability to deal with members of the public from many diverse groups
• Good telephone manner
• Willingness to learn new skills and apply in the workplace
• To deal with competing demands for attention with frequent interruptions
• Good communication skills
• Engage in continuous professional development
• Ability to form positive working relationships
• Ability to remain calm under a range of circumstances
• Adaptable
• Ability to give out instructions accurately
• Ability to lead and work as part of a team
• Flexibility to work as required in emergency to meet the needs of the service

Desirable

• Has an understanding/awareness of the Data Protection Act
• Has an understanding of basic health care requirements
• Has an understanding of infection prevention within a care setting
• Level 2 QCF/NVQ Health & Social Care
• Level 2 QCF/NVQ Clinical Healthcare Support
• Basic IT Skills.
• Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 2
• Decontamination Technician experience
