37.5 hours per week part time may also be considered at 30 or 36 hours per week

The Role:
We are seeking qualified staff nurses who want to be part of our Care team. You will be working as part of a supportive team consisting of nurses, nursing associates, care support workers and other health professionals. You will provide a high standard of evidence-based care and be able to balance opportunities for children to experience play, social interaction and learning alongside meeting the diverse and complex nursing needs of the children supported by Bluebell Wood.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for resilient, motivated, and innovative individuals who want to deliver high-quality, evidence-based paediatric palliative care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, taking responsibility for clinical decision-making and ensuring care is evidence-based and outcomes-focused
• Develop, review and contribute to advance care plans in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team.
• Lead aspects of care delivery within a shift, contributing to the safe running of the clinical area
• Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and role modelling of high-quality care
• Supervise, support and develop Nursing Associates, students and Early career employees, ensuring safe delegation and competence

Our vision
At Bluebell Wood is for every baby, child and young person with a life limiting condition to access specialist palliative care, where and when they need it. You will join our fantastic team where we all play our part in achieving our vision and creating an incredible culture for everyone.

Our services:
Our uncompromisable support services are wide-ranging and bespoke to each family. We provide symptom management, end-of-life care, post-death care, short breaks, counselling, sibling support groups, music therapy, home visits and more. We support families across a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. The hospice is easily accessible from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and North Notts. We have free secure on-site parking for families, staff and volunteers to use.

Every year we need to raise £6.7m to keep our doors open and only around 17% of our income comes from government sources, the rest must be raised through fundraising activity.

Job Purpose
As a Bluebell Wood Staff Nurse, you will:

• Be accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions
• Deliver high-quality, holistic and evidence-based nursing care, acting as a named nurse where appropriate
• Provide clinical leadership within the care team, supporting and supervising Nursing Associates, students and support staff
• Deliver child-focused, family-centred palliative and end of life care, ensuring care is responsive to individual needs
• Work flexibly across hospice and community settings, leading and coordinating care in the most appropriate environment

Key Responsibilities
Clinical

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, taking responsibility for clinical decision-making and ensuring care is evidence-based and outcomes-focused
• Coordinate and lead the delivery of care for children with complex, dynamic and technology-dependent needs, ensuring safe and effective practice.
• Interpret clinical information and escalate or act on deterioration, using professional judgement within scope of practice
• Delegate care appropriately to Nursing Associates and care staff, ensuring safe oversight and supervision
• Ensure all care is delivered in line with policies, SOPs and best practice, challenging and improving practice where required
• Develop, review and contribute to advance care plans in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team.
• Lead aspects of care delivery within a shift, contributing to the safe running of the clinical area
• Deliver and oversee care after death, ensuring dignity, respect and family support
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records and ensure high standards of documentation across the team

Leadership:

• Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and role modelling of high-quality care
• Supervise, support and develop Nursing Associates, students and Early career employees, ensuring safe delegation and competence
• Contribute to shift coordination, escalating concerns relating to staffing, acuity or safety
• Foster a positive team culture, supporting learning and reflective practice
• Actively contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
• To work towards the ability to lead shifts in the absence of a Team Leader or experienced nurse.

Education:

• Maintain and develop own clinical competence through ongoing professional development and NMC revalidation.
• Take an active role in teaching, assessing and supporting learners, including acting as a practice supervisor/assessor where appropriate
• Support the development and competency assessment of Nursing Associates and new staff
• Contribute to a learning culture, sharing knowledge and supporting reflective practice

Governance:

• Take responsibility for ensuring care is delivered safely and in line with SOPs and evidence-based standards
• Identify, report and lead learning from incidents, complaints and near misses.
• Contribute to audit, quality improvement and service development, using findings to enhance care
• Challenge poor practice and actively promote a culture of safety, openness and continuous improvement

• Actively participate in clinical supervision and appraisals.
• Fulfil the requirements for NMC Revalidation by actively engaging in professional development and staying current with all advancements in clinical practice

• To maintain confidentiality surrounding the childs or young persons admission and treatment at all times.

All hospice staff have a responsibility for safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk, which includes:

• an understanding of relevant hospice policies
• ensuring that any safeguarding and child protection or vulnerable adults concerns are both recognised and acted on appropriately
• attendance at mandatory safeguarding children and adults training and updates at the competency level appropriate to their role and in accordance with the Bluebell Wood safeguarding training guidance.
