We are now looking for a senior leader with extensive experience delivering large-scale tax engine, ERP tax, and indirect tax technology transformation programmes. The successful candidate will lead strategic client engagements, shape tax engine strategy and architecture, drive market growth, develop team capabilities, and oversee complex global implementations across multiple jurisdictions and ERP environments.

Your key responsibilities

• Lead large-scale tax engine and indirect tax transformation programmes from strategy and vendor selection through implementation, deployment, and managed operation.
• Define engagement approach, delivery methodology, governance structure, quality controls, and overall programme roadmap.
• Serve as the primary trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders across Tax, Finance, Technology, Shared Services, Procurement, and Operations.
• Lead tax engine strategy and solution architecture discussions covering Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Indirect Tax, Vertex, Avalara, integrations, tax content, data, controls, and downstream compliance.
• Advise clients on when to use ERP-native tax functionality, a third-party tax engine, or a hybrid architecture, considering business complexity, jurisdictions, control requirements, operating model, cost, and maintainability.
• Oversee global tax determination design, including registrations, taxability, exemptions, place-of-supply rules, product and customer classification, tax codes, master data, and calculation controls.
• Oversee programme risks, dependencies, escalations, budgets, commercial performance, quality assurance, and stakeholder communications.
• Lead client proposals, business development activities, market initiatives, alliances, and go-to-market offerings.
• Build and maintain relationships with tax technology providers, ERP vendors, system integrators, and key client stakeholders.
• Develop, coach, and mentor Managers, Senior Consultants, and junior team members.
• Drive capability development, innovation, thought leadership, and creation of reusable assets, methods, configuration frameworks, and test libraries.
• Support practice growth through recruitment, talent development, and strategic planning.

Skills and attributes for success

What we look for

• Deep understanding of indirect tax determination, VAT/GST processes, tax engine architectures, tax data, and control frameworks.
• Significant experience leading complex tax engine, ERP transformation, or indirect tax technology programmes.
• Proven track record managing multiple project teams and workstreams simultaneously.
• Extensive experience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Indirect Tax, Vertex, Avalara or similar solutions.
• Experience defining tax engine strategy, target architecture, operating models, governance frameworks, and transformation roadmaps.
• Strong programme management and executive stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to challenge solution designs and distinguish issues in tax policy, content, configuration, data, integrations, and operating processes.
• Excellent commercial awareness and business development capabilities.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage client relationships at executive level.

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Experience designing enterprise tax architectures involving ERP platforms, tax engines, APIs, middleware, data platforms, and compliance solutions.
• Experience leading tax engine vendor assessments, selections, proof-of-concepts, or global rollouts.
• Strong understanding of indirect tax compliance and reporting, and how determination outputs feed downstream processes.
• Experience leveraging automation, AI, analytics, and monitoring within tax transformation programmes.
• Experience leading global or multi-country implementations.
• Previous consulting leadership experience within a major professional services or technology consulting organisation.
• Relevant certifications in programme management, ERP solutions, tax technology, accounting, or tax.
