Sussex Wildlife Trust
To deliver our new strategic plan – Our Wild Sussex – we need people with bold and innovative ideas to help us to achieve our ambitions for local wildlife and wild places.
We are committed to restoring and protecting at least 30% of Sussex land and sea for nature, inspiring one in four people to take meaningful action for wildlife, building a stronger more inclusive and diverse organisation and becoming a net zero and climate resilient organisation.
We are looking for the best and most talented people to join our team and help us deliver this exciting and ambitious strategy. We are keen to hear from you even if you don't have all the skills and experience outlined in the Job Description but have the potential to grow into a role.
So, if you are someone who is determined to see a Sussex rich in wildlife and you have drive, energy and commitment to our values of Innovation, Passion, Collaboration and Inclusion why not apply now to join our great team, working together to deliver Our Wild Sussex.
In order to encourage diversity and inclusivity within the environment sector, we particularly welcome applications from people who have an ethnically or geographically diverse background, who are non-graduates and/or are living in economically deprived areas
The Role
This role is funded by the Wild About Inclusion National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Project. This project provides Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) with a dedicated individual who will use their expertise and experience to project manage the Wild About Inclusion NLHF project and oversee the Trust-wide Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) action plan. This includes working across all Directorates to embed inclusive practice throughout the organisation. Working closely with managers, teams and colleagues, you will develop and implement practical approaches that support SWT to become a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation, in line with its strategic ambition for 2030. Drawing on your knowledge and experience of working in Sussex, you will lead and support engagement with diverse communities, enabling the co-creation and development of community engagement plans that strengthen relationships, widen participation, and help ensure that nature is valued and accessible to everyone.
The Person
Are you a passionate advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion? Can you embed inclusive practice into the core operations of Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) in a way that is meaningful and sustainable for the future? We are looking for a values driven person with the skills, experience, and insight to support inclusive change and collaboration across SWT. Knowledge of Sussex communities, and of the social, cultural and geographical factors that shape access, inclusion and participation across the county, would be valuable. Experience gained in similar communities and settings elsewhere is equally welcome, as local knowledge can be built over time. We are particularly interested in your experience of engaging effectively with diverse communities and of supporting co-creation approaches that recognise the different ways individuals and groups experience and connect with nature. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and communities, and we recognise that you may not meet every criterion. If you have relevant transferable skills or lived experience, we would still encourage you to apply. We particularly welcome applications from people currently underrepresented in our sector, including disabled people and people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. The Wild About Inclusion project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to fund our ambitions to become a more inclusive and diverse organisation.
